Willy, I'd love to come back!

I joined Willy and a small crew (4 of us total) two summers ago. We had a really fun time; the camping was majestic, the surf fun and uncrowded. We could drive right onto the beach, and the water was not even that cold. Willy was a great host.

First week of August is particularly good for me...

That may work for me. I haven't really spent much time on the North Coast since kbing that area in the mid 1970's.

I've seen some of the pictures from the tip Scott took 2 years ago. I'd go so far as to say the weather looked WARM! I'm very interested and would like to be kept in the loop.
It could be worse, I could be in Oakla-homa.

This time we are going to take the Nor Cal gathering a little south of Humboldt - it is going to be on the beach in Westport in Mendo.

It will be Aug. 10th thru the 12th

The website for the campground is: www.westportbeachrv.com You can book your own campsite or camp with the group.

There are also hotels in Ft. Bragg 15 miles south of campground

Peace and good waves.

Westport
Beautiful area. My wife's field area (longest amphibian population data set in California, running for over 16 years) is just over the hill from there on the south fork of the eel river. There is also some quality beach breaks to south of that campground. The westport store also has decent local vineyard wine selection too.

Oh by the way, it is also where an ab diver got his head bit clean off a year or two ago. I think his buddy in the zodiac saw the whole thing

Syd,

Thanks for the info. but you could have left out the shark attack part. Yes, sharks are a factor on the North Coast, so is cold water and cold air, even in the Summer. 4/3 and booties are required - water is usually hovering about 50 degrees or so. The area is a wave magnet. It takes all swells from all directions. Reserved campsite G3 for Aug 10 -12 which will be available at noon on the 10th. Gates close at 9:00 pm, no late night entries. Group site is paid for, parking you'll have to cover. Please check out the website if you need any other campground info: www.westportbeachrv.com.

Peace and good waves.
