Calling West Australian Kneelos
With West Australian kneelos as rare as bunyip sightings, I've been thinking it would be good to get a few west aussie kneelos together in the one spot for a catch up, surf and exchange some knowledge.
I've been trying to find a kneelo club in Perth, but I've drawn a blank, so I'm thinking there is nothing organized over here.
I reckoned the best place to start was this forum and put the idea out to the kneelo community and see if anyone from WA browsing this site is interested or can pass on the idea to West Australian kneelos in Perth / SW area that they know.
If I could get a few people together we could decide if its worth a shot at starting something, maybe periodic gatherings and take it from there.
I'll wait to see what response this idea gets in this thread and go from there.
Heres hoping.

Excellent Griz!
Do you know any other WA kneelos we can contact?
I've made contact with the kneeboarding Australia website and they are happy to help as well.
Any other suggestions as to where to dig up a few of our kind will be welcomed.
Not sure how the PM facility on this site works, but try sending me your contact details.
cheers

G,day Gray, your spot on kneelos in WA are as rare as honest pollies.I,m
not really a sandgroper but Ive been in WA due to work commitments now
for a couple of years, and would love to join an informal club.Even though
ive been a kneelo since I was thirteen (I,m now 40) I have rarely surfed with other kneelos and would love to meet kneelos in WA.

Great to see so many replies already.
I've looked through the members list on this site and there seems to be about a dozen WA contacts so I'm going to PM everyone and see if that turns up a few more.
To keep the momentum up I reckon we should make a time to get together at the end of this month, for a beer and a chat one evening, say Thursday 28th May, to see where we take this thing, then we can arrange the first mass kneelo surf session.
Not sure where everyone is geograhpically so let me know where suits, good options for a beer in Cott, Subi, Leederville, Wembley, Scabz?
So hopefully the first surf session will be just in time for the delivery of my new flashpoint!
Cheers

Yeah I'm keen, been an awfully long time since the days of WAKA(West Aust Kneeboarders Assoc) I reckon the last time I surfed a comp was my early teens and i'm pushin 40 now. I've seen naff all cripples in WA for the last 10 or so years until a month or so ago there was 4 of us out at The Spot. Be great to meet a few like minded souls.

WA Kneelos
Weve got 7 blokes interested so far, pretty good in 3 days and definately will be the biggest kneelo crowd in one place for a long time.
Micko, are you sure it wasnt a mirage seeing 4 kneelos in the water together? haha
Anyone got any preference where we meet? I'm pretty flexible on the location.
cheers

Hi guys
Danny said it in a nutshell....distance!
I was living over there in 06, and yes it was my reports on the KSA site that you were reading
( this refering to a email sent to Rob Slater ...KSA from Gray)
There is more kneelos living over on the west coast that you might realise, the 6 months that i was living there i met heaps, and it all depends where you surf..Perth...I went surfing with Alex Noye once at Lancilin, never got to meet Arron Potter, Griz lived in the suburb next to me, and we never met
and yes i saw a few kneelos up at the 'Spot' which is just north of Perth! Go down to where where there is juice ( Margaret River region) and you will find heaps more kneelo's..there is 2 resident kneelos both living around the Preverlly Park area, and both claim to be the only kneelo's there, yet have never met
and i remember pulling into the Bare's Carpark one morning when it was pumping, and 3 kneelos came walking up the steps! They said there is about 12 kneelo's living in the Dunsborough area, and who surf Yallingup and surrounding areas!
Met another old kneelo mate of mine who lives and surfs in the Cow Bay area, and met another kneelo surfing around the Mandurah area, who was from Byron! The main problem is most of the guys do not do not look on the internet, let alone look at this site...you have know idea how many times i was asked about deck pads, yet Squid grips makes kneelo pads in Perth!
As a suggestion try putting a small add in some of the local Perth papers, about forming a new kneelo club, and you might find a few more, and 3-4 guys is a start!
Good luck Fellas!!!!
but then again, what would i Know

WA Kneelo Gathering
Yeah Danny, it might just be a bit of trek coming down from Kalbarri for beer. Might try and catch up on the way through on the way up to the Bluff later in the year. otherwise if your ever in Perh give us a hoy.
WAKA, Hopefully we can finish what you started and manage to uncover a few more kneelos that are hiding around town.
Okay, so here's whos keen to date:
Gray, Micko, Mick, Alan, Griz, Aaron, Rick and Danny (from afar). Not bad for a first pass I reckon.
Since no one seems to have a preference for watering holes I'll nominate the Wembley Hotel, Thursday 28th May 2009 at 7pm. How does that suit everyone?
Now how are we going to recognise each other? as I wast planning on wearing a cornation. I'll be sporting a shaved head, 6 ft , Scottish and hopefully not on my own!.
See you all there
