Back in the saddle again
Hello everyone. After over 30 years of standup, kneeboarding again these past 18 months has been a blast. I have kneeboarded big rock again with my old friend Tom Wolverton, the original 360 king in the 70s and the guy who discovered big rock in the early 70s and turned it into a dominant kneeboard spot back then. We had a blast! And rapping over the net with Bud McCroy was awesome. My next board will be one of his boards. He also sells great pads. This past week, I ran into a guy named Bob Gove. I saw him at rincon with duck feet fins. I was so stoked. I haven't seen anyone else with duckfeet in a long time. He looked like a younger version of George Greenough, and when he paddled out I watched him and a buddy just rip rincon on a big but bumpy day. However, sorry Bob, local knowledge took me to El Cap and it was rocking from the top of the creek into the cove. Kneeboarding has been a blast. Anyone living in the SB area let me know, would love to hook up for some fellowship.
Cheers,
Steve Wheeler

hey Steve,
welcome back! i spent 20 years standing up and in the end got so bored with the same design. i found Buddy on the web and he made me a killer 6' Fish Hybrid quad. i was instantly stoked and in love with surfing again. really cool crew here as well.

"This sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before." Butt-head
Yeah, Buddy da man. I have been hearing from so many different people about him, and was in contact with him to get pads, ,but unfortunately had already committed to a new board. Next one for sure.
Just got out of the water at rincon. low crowds, lot of waves, a bit bumpy, but overall pretty nice. But I miss San Diego for the surf.

Hey my daughter graduated from UCSC two years ago. I caught steamer lane once about four years ago, got three really good waves until they figured out I wasn't from there, then it was all over. Love it up there. Will look you up for sure. Have you ever kneeboarded moss landing?

OK. I get it, but how many strangers on this chat board are going to suddenly show up there anyway. We have some of those "if i told you, I'd have to kill you spots" in SB too. I just go where I want to go, and try to get some waves without ripping anyone off, and it's usually all good. Some of the best waves I've surfed ever are 40 miles off the coast somewhere, and you just won't find many people taking the time and effort to get there even if they had the exact GPS coordinates.

Yeah, I was right in there at big rock with Rex, Skinner and Tom Wolverton and a cast of many others, all knee boarders and very few surfers. PLHS class of 73. I haven't seen Rex in over 30 years, but have chatted with him and we have almost got together several times. Last time at Big Rock this January, missed him by about 5 minutes. I dated a girl from Uni High and her sister, Gigi Stirnkorb was in your class. Their younger brother Jed was a regular at Big Rock. I also ran into Hans ??? can't remember his last name, another regular and kid who lived just a couple blocks away.

There are plenty of people that surf those spots your referring too. They are no secret that's for sure.

didn't want to offend anyone...many people know that the spot named is by no means a secret. But for whatever reason, many people do not want certain spots mentioned by name, and this site usually respects that.
I actually got a PM once asking me to remove my mention of Abreojos. Obviously no secret to anyone, but I did it anyways to keep the peace.
