Newport Gathering

Post by Jim »

Hey, Mark
We will be there. Do you need the shade? I should be able to get some good fire  wood this year. Let me know what you need. Later Jim

I think The Beatles wrote a song about it:

"Isn't it good, Orange County wood........"

Jim, shade would be good. You may want to e mail Ler. He is trying to get the Hurley tents again. The more we have the better. Fire wood is good but watch that resin filled stuff that smoked out the whole beach and almost had us taken away by the authorities!

Smokin wood

If we set up on the southside like you proposed Mark, there are no firepits overthere. Is a fire really necessary? I guess the people that need it could always relocate.

True, but I have seen and herd of people having fires on the beach there by digging a pit. Let's check with the State Park lifeguards to get their input.

Guys, I spoke to the Life Guards. They said No fires on the beach. Only in the fire rings. BBQ's are ok as long as they are 18 inches off the ground. Shewman has a BBQ, so we'll be ok there.

Just a point of interest. Here in Santa Cruz there is a problem with high levels of arsenic found in and around fire rings at the beach. It seems that when people burn pressure treated wood - that greenish looking lumber - arsenic leaches into the sand.

Thanks Surfhorn, We'll have to spread some of that on to some burgers. The evening session will then be a lot less crowded.

the swell

Post by barry »

Good Day everyone, wanted to let you all know that the sandbars at the jetty are epic right now :!: since the summer has been relatively mellow so far the sand has done some serious accumulating. It has been chest high and fun all week!!! The tides on the 14th are really good for the whole day. So bring on the swell. I have been working down there nearly 7 days a week all summer so I have been keeping my eyes on it. there was even a BIG Tony sighting on thursday. he is back in town and will be bringing his daughter down for the day.
Bring on the Barrells I have 2 new boards and I am ready to use them...

The Sacrifice

Post by barry »

Jon no problem. There are several boards being sacrificed for this event. 8 boards and counting, only the sacrifice is not being done with fire this time. instead we are giving them away to future kneelo prospects  we have been inviting people of all ages who haven't tried kneeriding before and for those that show an interest to continue riding waves we are providing them with a used kneeboard. Hopefully by sharing our Stoke and some old equipment others can enjoy the benefits and thrill of the ocean. 8) Hoping to see you there, bring a friend and a smile :D
