A brief Black's Gathering Report:
Inspite of a storm front moving through with rain, a south wind, and a modest swell....WE SCORED. With our local Huntington Beach blown to trashy slop, Blacks was offshore and 3-5' faces drawn out punchy peaks. There was even the occasional 6'plus set. While not epic Blacks we felt lucky to surf waves that good considering the weather.
There were about 15-18 kneelos who gambled and won! A good time. Maybe next year we can see the true Blacks in "full bloom". This is truly a great surfspot.
Thanks to: Jack Beresford for organising the event
"Wino" for the use of his beautiful home and deluxe BBQ and hosting the post surf munchies. Of course there was a "NOW and THEN" viewing.
Joel for photos....there could be some good ones as there were some "rippers" in the water
A personal Shout Out to Bill Learner for the post surf spinal exam and adjustment. I feel so much better!

Yogi,
Joel has the film. You may want to give him a call - I'm guessing they still need to be developed. I'd be glad to contribute.

Joel Mayer Photog
Hey folks
Just talked to Joel Mayer the kneeboarder and photographer. He took pictures at both the Santa Cruz and Blacks gatherings. He says thanks to his anonymous benefactor for the money for developing pics. However he's still $50 bucks in the hole.
He is a good photographer and if you know him hands out pictures to you for free at the Oceanside parking lot.
He's a great guy and trying to get his business going and would appreciate any donations for developing costs.
Just to show how altruistic I am I wasn't there at Santa Cruz and got out of the water at the Black's gathering at nine as he was setting up because I had to take care of the midgets (my children, not the circus variety, although come to think of it the circus wouldn't be bad for either son or daughter for a year or two...).
So anyhooooo
Here's his adress and phone number if you want to donate or call:

Saturday caught some cholera-laced rainwater offshore A frames at Scripps in the AM-a little wild but fun.
More of the same manana?

Sprocket got a ton of pics at Santa Cruz, so quit yer whining!
Matt - saw some nice waves coming in at south mission jetty this afternoon around low tide, almost off shore there. only about 25% close outs. Didn't go out, but it was the only spot I saw today that might be worth the risk ...
we'll see how conditions go for tomorrow ...
