yes that is me and Darcy is correct. that is Backyards from NSG05.
I think that wave was ridden from 2nd reef to the inside and the photo
is taken as the wave hits the 'inside' reef at what Bud refered to as
the 'whitehouse lefts' portion of Backyards......
The Avatar is a framegrab that Simon emailed me.
I am hoping that it doesn't end up on the editing room floor
Not sure if im going to make this contest i have to play it day by day right now i mite be driving to idaho to help my mom she just found out that all the flooring under the house has mold and told to get a room some where and not sure if the insurance company is going to cover this they came out and kinda want to run from the problem its not like i can take my guns to idaho dam all the rednecks up there all have guns, If i can get in the contest and if there is a Kneeboard open its going to be at the last day to sign up. P.S Just had a look and the date has been moved to Oct 15th that works out just great im idaho bound.
This is a very good thing as July can be a very "iffy" month. October has a much better chance for surf and good weather.
Additionally, we have worked out the contest entry fee to be $50. Paul West is a huge supporter of our efforts and is doing all he can to help us keep our momentum going. This is the 3rd year we've been able to participate and the event keeps getting better.
If you would like to send Paul a note to "Thank" him for his support use his email - croatan@infionline.net
Please submit all other contest questions to me via PM.
I want to thank Don for negotiating a more reasonable price. So that meens if I start saving now I will be able to enter the contest. YEA!!
Also, October at the south Jetty can be extremely good. So lets start praying for a good west swell.
Greg....

I can't find anything on the web on the contest. I suspect the the contest has disintegrated after 40 some years of competition. Once the USSF lost control of amateur surfing in the US, its participation has dropped drastically I think. A bummer to the tradition of the US Champs die.
Hopefully, I'm wrong. Does anyone know anything about this??
It looks like the contest has been postponed again. On the USSF website the new date is listed as November 25-27. http://www.surfusa.org/id8.html
The divisions list still includes a Kneeboard division. The entry fee is listed as $100, but Don said a $50 fee was negotiated for the Kneeboard division.
