JohnS - You're so correct. At Quatras Casas, Playboys = lobsters.

And then there was that certain fencepost with the large flat rock; dig and ye shall receive.

Hey Scott, before you go calling that "out of towner" ...POOR SOME GUY....Know the facts!.... this guy brought this on in a BIG WAY!...First, he not only intentionally speared a friends board. But then he brandished a baseball bat and struck my friend from behind.(across the back of his head) It was after all this that a few locals got involved...... He left with several broken bones!!!....Respect the locals....ENOUGH SAID!!

Speaking of "out of towners"....I heard only positve comments about the hospitality and friendlinest of the locals from "Mark Wessling and Friends "during their stay here, this last week. These guys surfed their brains out and scored some awesome waves...They respected the locals and kept a low key approach....as it should be, when visiting.

San Jose International is 35-40 minutes away. SFO and Oakland are about 1 hour 5 minutes.

Major companies based here: Granite Constructioin, Inc; NetFlix; Plantronics (blue tooth ear sets), etc.
looks like i was the recipient of some bad info on airport location. so does plantronics have an outlet store?

Thats how it goes sometimes. Add a little champagne, etc, stir in some rumors form the Landing and - viola- surf 'truth'.

Too bad there are still idiots in the water. Hope everyone is OK.

gotta give major props to the brit's and the aussies for posting updates on their sites as to whats happening with them at the worlds and their interactions with the locals and how the surf is and info in general. I was just wondering are there any americans there? lol. I understand that those from KSUSA and santa Cruz are busy with the contest and all but how about those venturing from other parts of the US posting some info on your trip, till now and on opening day?I wish i could go just to document info (unfortunately im poor). Is there anyone up there with a laptop and not taking pictures for $$?

Hi All,

A quick report from Day 1 - pretty amazing day of surf and summer-like weather. Steamers was 4 to 8 foot on the face and clean all day with waves coming through at middles and near the hook. Pretty similar to the surf in last year's event with some bigger sets. Lots of great surfing (probably just wrapping up right now). Barry went crazy in his heat getting several nice sets and just ripping them apart. No major upsets as the trials were completed and the first round of the open got finished. More open heats on tap starting at 7 a.m. tomorrow. Hopefully the British and Aussie guys will have another big night at the bar (the brewery ran out of beer Saturday night) and will be sluggish in the morning. At least we can hope!

Joel and Darcy are taking photos like crazy - hopefully some will get posted soon.

Jack
