tahiti

Way to go Ed! Darcy - any idea how many of these places are still available (Hiti Moana)? Depending on how many of us are going it could make a nice "compound." I'll run this by Lucita but we'll likely get our own place here.

The rest of you (you know who you are) time to get off the fence!

airfare

Post by Jack Beresford »

I found a pretty good fare online with Air New Zealand. LAX to Papaeete is $645 - plus taxes, etc. it comes out at $725. Anyone found anything better?

I think Air New Zealand is the way to go...
I looked and looked and looked.
The best fare I found was 650 US from auckland, which for me is pretty damm good. All I have to do now is get to New Zealand.

I've been in contact with David Parkes on this one, he has been there several times, he suggested I look at Air Tahiti Nui. Unfortunately they only had limited seats as it looks like Air NZ has bought them all out. The flight will be operated by Air Tahiti and the airport (for what I hear) is really small, so there are a limited amount of flights that the airport can handle.

I say if you see anything from LAX for less than 1000, jump on it. Its a long way to travel.

Take Care

Jack,
Unfortunately, I'm on the U.S. side of the fence. However after reading what you and Bob posted it sounded like something to NOT miss and I found myself scamming to get on the Tahiti side. The problem is that I have to put in vacation time for 2004 in Nov 2003! All the summer vac time has been granted already so I'm stuck in SD.
So, how often are the World Championships? Is the next location decided yet? Who decides?
See ya! Brad

bummer

Post by Jack Beresford »

Brad,

Bummer. The World Titles typically happen every two years. There has been a lot of talk about the US hosting the event next time around - which would be awesome but a lot of work. A decision on this has not yet been made but the KSUSA executive committee would like to decide before the Tahiti event so we can announce our intentions. The ISA makes the final decision. That's another reason why it's important we have a strong US showing - if we're gonna host the event it helps to have people who have participated.

A US-hosted event would be an awesome but different experience. In my opinion, Tahiti should not be missed. There's something really cool about going halfway around the world to compete - especially if we get a good crew (which I believe we will).

airfare

Post by Jack Beresford »

All,

I e-mailed the Tahitians yesterday about their promised airfare deal - which was to be published by 3/15. Here's the response I got:

"Please let us one more week ,I think everybody will be happy!!"

I'll probably lock-in the Air NZ fare today but will cancel if the contest special turns out to be a better price. I believe Air Tahiti Nui is sponsoring the event.

Thanks Jack.....
If it's good, maybe, just maybe East Coast/USA will attend. many pieces to this puzzle.

I already got my ticket, I got it for 800 (all in) from auckland (I am planning on spending a week in NZ before the comp.

Last time I talked to Parkes, he could only come back on the 16th, (everything was booked up till then). thats when I got on the ball and bought my ticket.

I got mine to come back on the 10th, thats the only other date I could get to come back on.

I just got a message from a couple of the Puerto Rico Crew, seems like there are a couple that are confirmed with tickets and the lot.

See ya
Albert
