Where are you landing ...San Fran?????
Do what we did and have someone going to the comp meet you at the airport and follow them down ...(about 100 miles) There is a freeway outside the airport ... a lot quicker than highway 1 (the coast road) though better scenery or the web-site of your hire car will have download-able directions to your destination (Capitola) where Johns shop is (easy from freeway direct right onto his Street (41st Ave ) through the town and his shop is on the right hand side about 2 miles along if I remember correctly
Good Luck ...It is a lovely holiday destination ... wish I had more than the 4 days I had ... though will definatly be back next year
Have a blast and oh .... don't worry bout your mate in the shower .... in Johns guest shower you cant bend over ... only about 2ft square ... lol
have fun

pre-contest surf
Marc & Karl -
I'll be there on Sunday afternoon -- maybe too late to surf but we'll have to get together for a surf and photo session during the week. Hopefully the weather cooperates! I'll check in with John Mel on Monday to see where you're at!
Looking forward to documenting the antics of our old world brethren for all to see.
cheers - have a safe flight!

Another option would be to jump on Highway 92 from the airport, head west to half moon bay. Go right on Highway 1 for a couple miles to half moon bay harbor. Go as far west as possible; park.
Pull out that seven foot gun, mount the fins, announce the british kneelo invasion and paddle out to Mavericks. Takes about 40 minutes max from the airport.
If the swell hits in the size range they say, Mavs will likley be breaking. Its low tide in the afternoon as well.
don't worry about the locals the landlord has been about so crowds will probably be down.

NOAA
I've found the National Weather Service predictions to be more accurate than WetSands for Monterey Bay:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mtr/marine.php
Under the Coastal Marine Forecasts section, select Central California and then scroll to the bottom for Monterey Bay's forecast.

lodging
Bob,
I hear RW (Bob Welch) is looking for a roommate. Give him a call!

I just made a reservation at the Econo Lodge. The total for 3 nights (w/AAA discount) was $240 including $10% tax. This has two queen beds, so a share is still possible, and preferred!
I also asked Edgewater. There is still the Ocean Suite and a Queen + 2 trundle bed suite available. Both are more expensive than Econo Lodge, but would be great for a share situation. They do not have any of th $89 single queen rooms available.
If you're still looking, and don't want to share with me (ya Bas!) I'd compare these two.
And Mark, I mean Ken, I mean Mark... well, we'll catch up in SC!
