Car Rental

Post by Jack Beresford »

I just booked a Hertz economy car (a Peugeot) for $31/day using Expedia.com. I could only get the rate for 6/27 to 7/3. Beyond that they charge about $500/week.

SCRIMMAGE

Post by Ler »

from: Wetsand

Thursday June 3rd is when our next SW swell is due. This is from an impressive system spinning off the ice cap near Antarctica, moving on a nice northward motion to throw us energy with little to no loss from angular spreading. Models are showing this one gaining a wide are of fetch with seas reaching 40+ feet at its center. Calculations today point to this one cranking some head high + surf for California, possibly 2-3 feet overhead and lasting through the 5th or longer.

Maybe good for the scrimmage.

....or..... I could paddle out in nothing but baby-oil and a banana-hammock... take a weakass 9th place... then stand on the end of the O'side Jetty screaming "I'M ALBERT MUNOZ AND I LOVE KNEEBOARDING!!!!!"

yeah, you could do that, but to get that weak ass 9th place you would have to go to a contest and actually get that far.

and if you would lube yourself up and scream my name off the end of the o'side jetty, would that be some way of professing your admiration for my surfing???
because if it is, I would much rather prefer you wear a huge chicken outfit.

ATA Carnet

Post by red »

The guidelines for Tahiti suggest an ATA Carnet to avoid problems with customs. The Carnet is a temporary admission importation document that ensures goods (i.e kneeboards) will not be sold in the country.

In Australia Carnets are $330 from the local chamber of commerce.

I'm not about to shell out that kind of cash. It's possible that customs may require a deposit - refundable when you leave the country with all your boards.

Has anyone else looked into this issue?
How do you intend to address it?
I've written to the ASP in Australia to see how they advise, but don't expect a useful response.
Maybe someone can ask Alissa (at NSSA)?

scrimmage (again)

Post by Jack Beresford »

US Team Scrimmage - this Saturday 6/5 at Oceanside Harbor. First heat paddles at 6:15 a.m. Everyone welcome to participate (that includes judging and surfing). Sounds like there will be swell and John Eckert says he'll shoot for an hour or two (I'll try to coax Jason to shoot vid).

Darcy, Ed and Bob - I've got your team trunks. Hats should be here by then too!

Don - thanks for creating the cool Web page - I'm sure when our competition sees our average age is 40+ it'll put the fear of god in them!

PS: I got an e-mail from the Tahitians confirming my entry and receipt of my bank transfer (thanks Greg). Did anyone else get this?

entry

Post by DarcyM »

I got confirmation of my entry as well, Jack.

All those youngsters headed to Tahiti should very well feel fear at our superior age, er ... experience ...

... at least until the arthritis sets in after the first two heats!
yikes! Thanks, Don!

Come on Darcy your reputation precedes you. Just don't drink all those Aussies under the table the first night, a terrible blow to their ego. And remember with friends like me who needs enemies.

contest format

Post by Jack Beresford »

There's been some questions about the contest format. Here's what I got from the Tahitians:

Hi jack,

the format of the contest is by ISA rule book.
length of the heats :
-15 to 25 minutes depends on waves conditions
-30 minutes for the finals
number of waves : 2 best waves on 12 or 15 (same in final)
-decided by head judges
number of surfers in each heat : 4

there will be a competitor meeting on the 27th in the late morning, before
the opening ceremony on the afternoon.
see you soon,

maina.
