Tom,
This is great news. There's a whole new intrigue by doing it at Steamers, a place I've yet to surf. Cant' wait.

Dan or Jon, I tried to get over to the West side last year during the Festival (at rush hour) and it was impossible! Maybe because I don't know my way around that well. Will you be checking out some Westside lodging options for us, or do you think the usual spots will be OK?
Thanks, Brad

Thought you guys would like to see what was going on at the Lane last year around your Nov. 17 start time, low tide and high tide.

I'm not sure what the organizers are up to but lodging is no problem. There are plenty of units in Santa Cruz and, since its at The Lane, the evenings activities should be moved to the West Side of town.

There are a ton of restaurants/facilities that can be used and I've worked with the City of Santa Cruz for years on various projects so I have access to their facilities as well. I also work with the S'Cruz Chamber of Commerce and the County Visitors and Tourism Bureau on other projects.

It will be a bit more of a drive for those who choose to camp out, though.

There actually is a campground --Henry Cowell State Park
http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=546
Which is pretty empty at that time of year, very woodsy and not too far from the lane. With no traffic, if you hit all the lights about 12 minutes to the lane. I live almost next door to it. And now strangely enough they are offering wi-fi service. What's next, latte's at the ranger station?

I believe there are 13 state park units in Santa Cruz county, most with camping facilities. I was thinking about beach units such as New Brighton, Manresa Uplands and Sunset.

Yeah Greg I'm that stoked! If we have just a litlle of what we had at Pleasure Point you will not be disapointed. Tom, Dave Noel has a few good candidates for water patrol worth checking out. If you get in touch with me and I will give you his phone number. He is not on line.

I'm really excited to see all the stoke regarding the Lane. Funny to see all the photos highlighting the left. I always think of the Lane as primairly a right.

While, John Mel's Freeline Surfshop will continue to be our contest headquarters. All other Gathering and Contest festivities will be on the Westside. Shortly, we will determine recommended lodging and the location of evening festivities.

A Surf Orientation will held by Jon Manss and the subject will be "Lefts at the Lane and how they will make you famous". On a more serious note if you thought the Pleasure Point entry was a tough cliff act, you need to know the ins and outs at the Lane. I don't want to see any knee boarders looking stupid in my back yard so you can count on me to map out the right and wrong places of entry and exit. If it takes a walk through on the cliffs then that's what we will do. So Stoked!
