Thoroughly enjoyed reliving it again through your post Simon, you might consider journalism as well as outstanding surfer and movie maker to your talents . I totally agree with Albert, as would anyone who surfed in that rip, the worst rip I have ever seen - out of proportion to the size of the waves, imagine river rapids with the rapid waves rolling in on themselves. You had to be in the right place at the right time to catch a wave and stop your express trip out to the sand pit out the back where the waves (6 to 8 ft ) were also breaking with the full force of Bass Straight onto the shallow sandbank that was feeding the sandpit .
One of the boys in our WAKA club who also rows surfboats in competition for the surfclub, who I might add is one of the fitest individuals I know ( except when he has a few Wild Turkeys under his belt ) commented that was the most he had feared for his life in that rip and sandpit. Of course those of us that excel in this God given sport made it look like a walk in the park but they too struggled at times, saw Matty G take a wild express elevator plunge into one of those pits that brought the crowd to it's feet - he faired a fair bit better than I when I did the same thing, but I dare say that might have been his fitness level as compared to my lack of it .
Again Simon congrats on a great breakdown of the comp. and full points to you for the courage of your convictions in broaching the subject with the organisers.
You know, of course, we will be waiting with baited for the breakdown for Bendalong '08 from you, seeing you've set the precedent.
I missed out congratulating Jim Brown on being part of the organisation that ran an extremely well run event, and thanks for the email Jim with the results and attachments - thank you.
Cheers Wolruss
