I dont think the two Aussie contests RULE to qualify for the worlds is a worry. The rule is generally used to seed the top Aussies into the opens, other countries use their national titles or have a surf off before the event starts to decide which surfers get an automatic birth into the main event.
Basically the top rated Australians from the nominated comps don't have to go through the qualifing rounds at the world titles, in the past most other countries have been able to put most or all their surfers into the main event due to the low number of entries per country.
The qualifying rounds can be good to build some confidence rather than going into the main event without having surfed a heat for months or years.
Ross as a Central Coast kneelo you automatically qualify as a bad egg, see Ponsford or Kim Whealey for a shirt and wear it proudly - rocking up to the worlds without having done any qualifing comps is normal procedure for a bad egg, travelling on your own and hanging out with guys or girls from other countries or on your own gets you more bad egg points, if your not sure if your doing it right - confirmation comes if and when the teams assemble for a pre contest ceremony and your one of the only Aussies without a team shirt and your shuffled along at the back of the aussie gathering.I got to meet and hang out for a week with the esteemed Don Harris and his side kick new father of 3 Mr Bob Schiff(SF kneelo)at the World's in NZ, and while I'm a pathetic communicator between times, I always try to get up to Central Cal when I go to Southern Cal for business, and go surf with them at their local - Ocean Beach.

The quality of early qualifing rounds of the World titles I have been to vary in quality from scary good to pretty embarassing - pot luck will decide the fate of some and others will progress on the back of having a red hot go.
Some recognition of past contest records would be a good idea for seeding some wild cards, i remember Michael Novakov couldn't get a start in the main event at the Wollongong World titles without pre qualifing despite winning 3 world amatuer titles in a row.
Hopefully we get a world champ who beats the best of the best to win in Santa Cruz, rather than a guy who goes everywhere and gets seed ed through while others don't bother showing up due to rules and restrictions.

Red go for it and start a new thread dedicated to kneelos who should be their for services to making sure people have a laugh, cry or other at kneelo comps.

i'm getting one on the bottom of my next board.
Central coast bad egg unit 8)
all good advice above fellas.alot of why i was asking is because we are having a 30 b'day party for one of my oldest friends at my house the weekend of the Bendy event(spewing about that one).
thought about driving down each day(4 hrs each way),decided that was nuts.although i did do that with Kyle once,he drove i talked him through it :P
good to know i can bad egg my way in anyway.something appealing about being an outcast,me thinks.

spot on guys.....

.....i think its an advantage to be the bad egg, or even a dark horse. Every worlds I have been to I have never been in the Australian Team....always on my own entry. I walked with the Aussie team in NZ with no team shirt, after the finals big Kenny gave me one unofficially undercover.

I like the social worlds idea, well you all know me guys

Cheers, Jamie!

We're all looking forward to your next trip out here. I WISH I could get the clan out there, but I think I have a couple years of hard labor ahead first.

Besides NZ in '99, Jamie and Bronwen (then sans kids) were gracious hosts when we went to Oz for our honeymoon.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next World's to see some great surfing and catch up with folks I haven't seen since '99.

This forum is great, but it doesn't come close to throwing them back!

Regarding entries, I'm not quite sure how the U.S. team will be chosen, but I think the last KSUSA titles will factor heavily... which means I'll be the local flavor of the bad egg...

Ross,
You only have to send your entries and money to the ksa to be able qualify for the world titles, even if you cannot make it to the actual contests. A few other people have done it this way because of work commitments. Check with John or Smurf at the KSA

Muckyu. I agree with all the names and would luv to see everyone there in Santa Cruz. I will be there wearing the emerald green of Ireland. that will be ironic as a maori surfing for Ireland. No really I will be there for the craic, party in Cork,. I hope that alot of those mentioned names are in Santa as I haven't seen alot of you guys for a few years. But would luv to catch up
you can put me down for the party list.

World Kneeboard Titles

Post by ropes »

Hey Steeno & Red.
Good to see you guys are still alive. I do miss the comarade ship of all you guys at the comps. I haven't seen another kneelo out here. There are good waves though. Seen some pretty epic stuff and nobody out. Do any of you guys have any idea whom is going from there. Let me know if you would and ask someone to let me know where they are staying as I haven't made eany accomodation booking as yet and would like to get some place handy to them all.
Luv to catch up again lads.

Hi rob,
I thought you would be staying with coops and ding dong just like the first one in Durban. :o
I will probably not get organized until the month before, the missus is heading to Asia for work at the same time, so we will have to try and farm the kids out to the gran parents.(farming might be the word as the outlaws are farmers in western vicco)
Whats the story with the rope - have you grown them back or stayed all respectable.
I look forward to catching up with ya, some of the memories are priceless.
