Jan and Dec both seem to be wet, it probably is a toss up but dec is a tad dryer.

Of course its wet It's the middle of our winter. I'm just saying that we usually get a drying out period of about two weeks in Jan.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't all this talk about a Santa Cruz world title comp all based on getting an amazing surf break reserved for about 5 or more consecutive days? How would that be possible, particularly at the Lane, which is about the only traditional contest place in SC I think worthy of such a world title event? The local contest machinery (and the local surfers) would flip!

My wife and I always schedule time off for the third week of January. It never fails that the weather flips and we have a week of 70-80 degree F gorgeous, sunny weather, nice offshore winds and strong north swells.
Its enough to make you quit your job.

Our Falls here in Santa Cruz County are to die for. We've had seasons where the surf hasn't dropped below 5 feet for 45 days in a row.

And our produce and wines and other 'cash crops' are world class.

Its worth the trip even if you don't compete.
