The Lane boys are in a class of their own, be prepared and no thin skin's
or chips on you shoulders!!

You'll probably be worse off on land than in the water.
My experience with the Lane crew, and I've been surfing there for years, not much lately though, is if the Lane is firing, good luck keeping them out of the line-up. If the surf is mediocre then they will probably surf somewhere else. Takes a major surfing event to keep them at bay when the Lane is pumping.

Ease up Mike, I was that bad element you encountered back in those days. But now I'm on your side. Hey good attitudes are always appriciated. Think positive vibes Bro. Every one plan on having a great time.

CONTEST

Post by Ler »

No kneelo's, all the short board bro's. Gnarly. Fights in and out of water. I got dragged away screaming my head off. The other side just laughed. They know the contest and the competitors will be gone in three days. They don't care. Chris Anderson saw the mayheim.

Motels in Area for Santa Cruz Contest

Post by surfhorn »

I've been getting a lot of questions on accommodations so here is a list of motels that are fairly close. I've kept to those locations that are in a decent neighborhood, also. If it doesn't have a URL, it is probably on the lower end of the economic scale. I will post more detail soon but this should get you started.....all walking distance from foot of wharf/ Ideal Fish Company Restaurant plus downtown S'Cruz:

Casablanca -corner Beach/Main across from Boardwalk
www.casablanca-santacruz.com 831-423-1570 (upscale restaurant also)

Edgewater - 525 Second Street - block up from Boardwalk
www.edgewaterbeachmotel.com 831-423-0440 888-809-6767

Econo Lodge - 550 Second Street 831-426-3626 800-458-3603

Villager Premier - 510 Leibrandt Avenue 831-423-6020 800-328-7829
www.villager.com

Sea & Sand Inn - 210 West Cliff Drive 831-427-3400
www.santacruzmotels.com

Bay Front Inn - 325 Pacific Avenue 831-423-8564 800-736-2023
www.bayfrontinnsc.com

Ocean Pacific Lodge - 120 Washington (next to Bay Front) 831-457-1234
800-995-0284

Beachview Inn- 50 Front 831-426-3575

Terrace Court Motel- 125 Beach Street 831-423-3031

Coast Santa Cruz HOTEL (old Dream Inn)- 175 West Cliff Drive

The Coast Santa Cruz Hotel is a bit more upscale and close enough that you can put your wetsuit on in your room and walk to the contest site.

The Sea & Sand Motel is a one story motel-type structure next door to its 'big brother', Coast Santa Cruz Hotel......50 feet closer to the waves.

I will talk with The Edgewater Motel. Its nice a clean place, up on the hill 2 blocks from the beach and has a gas BBQ/picnic area. It may be the perfect place for a KB HQ. We might be able to get a good rate if we can fill all the rooms.

Tony, you're always welcome at my house....but I live in Aptos which is about 10+ miles south of The Lane......and some really nasty daily commute time traffic. As this thing gets closer, we can put together a listing of host families and we'll see what we can pull together.

Surfhorn- you are the man!! thanks for taking the lodging quesiton by the horns. You pick kneelo central and that's where we will all be. You did a great job last year with the place in Capitola. We will trust you to recommend a similar place for this year.

Thanks!!

Tom
Did anything ever come from that pizza place you used as a base in 03 when Ken and I where there ( I hope so )
With the business you gave them it would have been nice for them to give you guys some kick back
It was a fantastic venue ... but Looking at it in a business sense you have to look at profitable propositions
I look forward to coming over next year ... Hope the dates don't clash with the P I comp as they seem to each year
I wish you well with this years comp ... But am sure it will be far superior to the first excellent Santa Cruz comp you guys put on 2 years ago
I wish I could make it this year again ... if only t catch up with all you guys and keep the stoke for the following years ... lets face it .... the airfares are cheap enough at the moment
Cheers and good luck with the comp
