Yes, the whole event was just spectacular, with the out-of-the-water activities being as significant and memorable as the surfing itself (IMO).

For my part, I'm working diligently to get the Ed Quinn Interview video compressed into a reasonable format for posting to this site. I think we all agree that many could benefit from getting to know more of the real Ed Quinn...

I surfed so much is such a short amount of days that whenever I close my eyes I just see surfing--so tough at work today! What can do there if I can't close my eyes whenever I want?

Well, I missed last year's event so it was a long year anticipating this year's. But the Blacks and Salt Creek Gatherings, Surfer Bowl, having friends show up at Blacks in February and March, the Jalama and Oceanside Gatherings, and the USSF Champs in June got me through :D

So, take all of the above, combine them exponentially, and what a cool event it was; well worth the wait! Great waves, weather, and town.

Thank You to all who worked so hard to pull off such a great event so smoothly, and who planned and worked all year to make it a success.

Driving home was cool. Even though the surf at Moss Landing early Sunday AM was lacking to the poing of not going out, I was smiling in my head for much of the drive.
Good music, thinking of Simon's video, reviewing my 7 heats :D , anticipating a new stick, people I met and will see again, the World's coming ito CA in two years, Scott's video (classic!), Jon and Nora, the Tribute to Don, the consistent surfing of Jack and Barry (wow), the wave selection of John Mel, and the anticipation of where our surfing will be at in 2005. Too cool!

Hi All,

I have a slightly different take on this event. Since I was not able to get to SC until Saturday, I was quite bummed that I couldn't go out and surf Pleasure Point in such awesome conditions. So, the highlight of the event for me was the look on Barry's face, when it was announced that he was giving a board to one of the juniors. I really think he enjoyed that more than winning the contest.

Not getting to surf in the contest was not a total loss though, as I did get to meet with Jon Manss and work out the design for my next board (pictures and preformance report will be completed when the board is delivered). Jon is a true craftsman and if any of you have ever seen his woodworking projects, you know what great creatative eye he has for detail (and perfection).

Don, it was great to see you so speechless and even better to have had a part in thanking you for all your efforts!!!!!

So who are the real winners? All of the people who gave to make this event what it was!!!!!!!!!

Your breathing life in to a sport that has been described as extinct.

God bless you all,

Mike

What a great event. Well organized and run and we scored some waves for the duration. Enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing the USA "State of the Art". I will take home with me a little more stoke for our art and will look forward to next year.

My 13 year old daughter who lives with me in the islands is super stoked on receiving the Surftech raffle board that I won. This will be a perfect board for her and other island kids to learn on. Thanks KSUSA and John Mel, it will be put to good use.

Yeah Mr. Bee, there was Sewer Peak and Rock View and Barry took advantage of both. We couldn't get him out of the water. I think he was afraid his gills might dry out.

This was really a top notch event. Don, Tom, and all involved in setting up this event did a fantastic job. The weather was perfect, the waves were great and so was the surfing. My boys and I were really stoked to be there and plan to be back next year.

A special thanks to Marc Crawford and Barry Baker for giving the boards they won to my boys, Sam and Harry. They're so loaded with gear they'll best equipped groms at the beach. Both boys plan to compete next year and will be trying to recruit some friends. Hopefully, we can find enough kids to have a juniors competition next year.

It was really great that Sam was allowed to surf with the AAA finalists and come up for the awards. That is going to be a really special memory for Sam.

Elsewhere on this site I have a link out that shows some of the quality waves from the event, particularly in the semis of the AAA and one wave from the Open final. There is also the Ed Quinn Interview spoof. More info on:

Just wanted to take the time to thank some folks:
Don Harris- Thanks to you for bringing us all together!
Jon Mel- Your stoke and unselfish use of your shop and "local clout" in the line-up was greatly appreciated. You still rip too!
Jon and Nora Manns- You guys are sweethearts. Jon, not only can you guys cook but you can shred the waves as well. You're both very gracious.
Mary Lou, Tom Linn, and the contest crew made it all run smoothly(aside from a few longboard meatheads).
Tom Backer and Jon Manns for the cool trophies
Barry Baker for putting on the lip bashing clinic and taking the contest. Looking forward to the Northshore.
Finally, all the sponsers, without their donatoins I couldn't open a surf shop in my garage! It's been tough trying to find a place for all my winnings, life can be hard at times.

I know I haven't mentioned everyone who helped out, but, WE Thank You as well! 8) Wayne

As for the pics from Joel...

Joel shot 46 rolls of film. We have the digital pics but the film needs to be developed and that's costly!

KSUSA has made a deal with Joel to get the pics developed so hang tight and we'll get it done and posted.

John, this would be a good opportunity for you to get your feet wet w/ the site as editing and posting the pics takes time and patience.

Any other volunteers?

D
