Darrick Doerner used to put a single duck foot tucked into the back of his surf shorts in case he lost his board and got swept over towards the rocks at Waimea. apparently it saved his arse more than once. swim fins make a world of difference when you've lost your board and help keep you from losing it in the first place.

The "Edie"contest made frontpage of Melbournes leading broadsheet,(mostly objective) - large and great shot of Irons dropping
- the front page of right wing rag features the shark attack in south australia - politics, the media and the nature of the thinking of who buys what paper!
surfing and societies great divide

Don't know about 'back-up' fins carried during the contest, but at least one rider (paipo or bodyboarder) did in the 'free' surf before the contest. Check out the pics atsurfhorn wrote:Yeah, but did they wear swim fins???!!!!

First check out the two opening page pics of Flea V's wipe-out. Then choose the Gallery "Latest Winter Gallery 2004-2005" (or something like that), then choose the content of choice (e.g. "Worst Wipeouts). If you pick the category: "Worst Wipeouts", check IMG_0275 to IMG_280 to see the paipo/body-boarder mixing it up with the stand-up surfers.
