Guys
Virgin has $59 flights to Melboune each way from Sydney as of last night
Get in now before they all go www.virginblue.con.au
I booked mine last night for a 8.45 Friday morning flight and return 2.15 Monday arvo (gives you recovery time after the Sunday night party at Turtles) ... if anything like last year
I have heard Turtle is holding a fishing comp this year (in his own stocked dams) ...sounds good
Also entries now on www.kneeboardsurfaustralia.com.au
cheers
Tony

Hi guys,
I would just like to clear up a few issues regarding The Phillip is Kneeboard Classic.
I spoke to Neil yesterday as did Scoop so we could get this straight.
The event does purchase insurance for the event through Surfing Aust. so the event and the organisers have liability coverage, should a competitor or bystander need compensation for something that occured at the event.
If you as an individual want liabilty coverage for yourself to cover against someone pursuing you personally for compensation arising from an incident at the event then you should join Surfing Aust. .
However it is not a requirement as a competitor at the Phillip Is Kneeboard classic that you have to join Surfing Aust.
There are many good reasons to join Surfing Aust and if you wish to do so thats something that Neil would applaude as a longtime competitor at Surfing Aust events since the 70's, and a supporter of Surfing Australia initiatives.
Please be aware if attending events like Red's Coopers Cup that the Phillip Is Classic event insurance does not cover you or the event for anything that might occur there.
By all means get involved and enjoy as i did last year - just beware that you are attending a gathering of kneeboarders not a contest and treat others out in the water with the respect that they deserve.
Jamie Mchugh
proud attendee of the inaugural PI kneelo classic and as many as I posssibly could since, nothing more, nothing less.

Thats an interesting issue you have raised Jamie. I have surfed in the majority of PI Classics for the last 10 years always joining Surfing Aust. because I was lead to believe it was a requirment. Possibly this may be the first year it isn't ???
Last year I dislocated my shouder in the event and had to have is put back in in Melbourne. I have also had a reconstruction since and I'm finally in the water after a 6 Month recovery. It must be said that I could have dislocated my shoulder anytime surfing as I have in the past and have had 2 reconstruction previous.
I have private health insurance and have been out of pocket approximatly $1000 dollars mind you to get a top surgeon this proceddure without insurance but with medicare assistance you would been out of pocket 3-5K.
I Approched surfing Victoria and was looking to see if I was covered for anything (I thought I would be !!!). They brushed me off said ring there insurance agent directly where he said dislocations, sprains are not covered only fractures.
I would of have thought that dislocations, ligiament injurys, back sprains would account for a higher % of injuries in total over fractures. I was a bit pissed with the treatment and thought what does this cover really cover me for.
Again i stress this could happen anytime , I have no hard feelings against the PI constest. The contest takes out a public liabilty coverage of itself and competitor that because it has to .
I just want to point out that be aware what the SA acually covers you for or doesn't !!!
My Advice would be to take out individual health insurance ( I pay $450 P/A) that will cover your health issues that may assist when injuries occured surfing. I will also tack out SA membership beause it does cover you for very serious injuries / accidents when surfing( ie spinal).
I'm lucky I could still work . I know on the circut there is a lot of self employed kneeboarders, From what I understand you are not intitlled to income protection say you dislocate a sholder, do your back in , or a knee based on SA policy.
Any way food for thought, I look forward to November down the Island.

Ok got that thanx red.
My post was there so that people were aware they didn't have to fork out to Surfing Oz to enter PI Classic.
A liitle awareness regarding obligations to respect others in the water during free surfs prior to and post the event including at the Coopers Cup was an issue that Neil raised and I am happy to endorse.
My better half booked travel 3 months ago for the whole family so I guess I am a lucky guy.
I spoke to Parkesy yesterday and he confirmed hes going as well.

hehehe....
only one week to go...

Just got off the phone with Steeno, the plans are all laid out. This is not going to be an easy comp... (EQ... wanna try and surf this comp?? I bet there will be plenty of people on hand to give you lessons, cheap too!)
Chayne and I are heading down Wednesday morning, try to catch a surf, then meet up with Steeno, Simon and Troy. As if that wasnt enough, the legend that is Rob Rennie is also meeting us down the coast with Gavin Coleman...
Cant wait for Red's Coopers Cup...!!
