Aussie Teams contest Poll.

Post by Headwax »

Well maybe I got your attention with false advertising but heh?

Albert Munoz writes:
I still dont understand this.. The format was formulated with the WAKAs specifically in mind as well as all the other regular circuit competitors.

why would you think you would probably not compete!! why is this so hard for me to understand!!

this has been by far one of the most frustrating things I have ever had to go through.
Albert a team thing seems like a great idea.
And you seem very keen.
I've been reading about it for a while but haven't quite got the guist though.
From memory, I know you and Steen had a long and "qualititative" conversation.

Care to share your thoughts in a structured post?

It might help to address the questions on people's minds.

Possible questions:

insurance issues, dates, time period, location, how many teams, how many members in each team, structure of team, prizes, entry costs, how teams are put together, handicapping, a and b grade, will it count towards Kneeboard australia ranking, will it be an annual event, do you want sponsors, will you pick only the best guys, if so how will you decide, what about the other guys who can't surf and no one wants them on their team, how will this work, if you have steen troy sparrow novokov, then would you be happy surfing against them or with them etcetcetc.....

over to you.

Red has the Red's Coopers Cup.

Might I sugest "Albert's Tia Maria Trophy"?

(just kididng on that last bit - honest)

Andrew

Actually Albert laid it out on page 2 of the Woolongong Comp post
The format for the teams event still has to be finalised, but here it is in draft form.

- 4 people per team
- 2 people from each team have to be in one of the following divisions (ROBs, Legends, Surfmasters, Juniors, Cadets, Womens)
- the other two people can be of any other division
- we all surf a regular format event
- money prizes get distributed for the top two placing teams.
- then, the next day, if so desired, age divisions can be run.

This way, no one gets left out of the teams event, and no one team can have a ridiculous advantage over the others, and 8 people will receive money in the end.
hope this helps

What I would like to know is where are people getting confused here.

The format did not exclude anyone! The teams were either to be formed before the comp or on the day of the comp (preferably the night before), anyone could be on a team, the team itself would have the restrictions to have the handicap.

I would refrain from using A and B grade surfers, the handicap would be better off going from the ages, as explained in the above post.

Basically, teams would mostly be teams on paper, the prizes would be handed out at the end of the comp to the top two teams.

Just to clarify, I am not announcing that this event is going to take place! I really really wanted it to happen this year here in wollongong, but the format didnt stick for reasons I am yet to understand.

That is one thing I still have yet to get a straight answer from anyone, why did people not want to have this? Why were people feeling excluded by this format? Why hasnt anyone answered my question?

Hullo Alberto,
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete
A fine idea. But people seem confused.
Maybe they need a structured post outlining exactly what you have planned.

In detail.

A beautiful new model visualised in completeness.

As an example when you say
The teams were either to be formed before the comp or on the day of the comp (preferably the night before),
would they be selected (as per a Dada poem) by being drawn out of a hat.?

Harry, this is probably the structured post you were asking about

In fact, yes they would be, as long as the team fit the aforementioned criteria.

Albert,
If we can figure out handicapping it won't matter who is in a team. 4 ROB vs 4 Y&RFYC's (young and restless fine young cannibals) could be figured out on handicap (1.5 times the points or something). Then names out of a hat will work;
PS I'm an ROB in 6 months' time and I demand the right to be handicapped more than you fit young things

27 minus 4 (answer = yes lads, Tia Maria is a place in mehico  )

gives us just over a statistically significant number of replies (if ssn is taken as 22)

Red, if you join the RObs I DEMAND to be put in the veterans.

Beauty before age.

yeah, you could do it that way, but then tabulating would be a bit hard dont you think...

and then, the question steen and I asked ourselves was, where do we draw the line on who gets handicapped and who doesnt? and how do we make all the people that are handicapped feel good about it (because I think some people would not be too happy about being or not being handicapped)?

These are really good ideas red, I think we just need to brainstorm some more till we get it right
