I wonder if they want to pick up the KB worlds?

NBC Sports to Broadcast 2006 Mavericks Surf Contest Presented by Verizon Wireless

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 03 February, 2006 : - - HALF MOON BAY, Calif., – Mavericks Surf Ventures, in association with Bolt Media, announced today that NBC Sports will broadcast this season’s edition of the world-famous Mavericks Surf Contest® Presented by Verizon Wireless on May 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. EST. Following last year’s captivating broadcast, NBC Sports, the network which airs the Olympic Games, The NFL, NASCAR, The PGA Tour, Wimbledon and The Dew Action Sports Tour, among others, will offer its viewers an inside view into this year’s event.

“We’re thrilled our relationship with Mavericks continues to grow, and we’re proud to be the exclusive network provider of the most unique and compelling big-wave surfing contest in the world,” said Jon Miller, Senior Vice President, Programming, NBC Sports.

This winter, for the third consecutive year, 24 of the best big-wave riders on the planet will return to Mavericks to face the challenge of frigid water, giant waves and the best competition in the world. Heralded as the “meanest spot on earth” by Wave Action Magazine, this year’s contest broadcast on NBC Sports, a division of NBC Universal, will allow viewers across the nation to experience the event. “Mavericks big-wave surfers are their own species, classified as daring, courageous and extreme. With our NBC Sports relationship, we can share this high adrenaline experience with a much broader audience, delivering soul-stirring footage to viewers everywhere,” said Keir J. Beadling, Managing Partner of Mavericks Surf Ventures.

Crowned “the Super Bowl of big-wave surfing” by Sports Illustrated and “the most dangerous surf contest in the world” by CNN, The 2006 Mavericks Surf Contest® Presented by Verizon Wireless will take place on 24 hours’ notice any day between January 1 and March 31, 2006. Mavericks, a world-renowned big-wave spot located one-half mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California, has played host to four historic big-wave surfing contests. Last season, 30,000 spectators and two million television viewers worldwide experienced the event.

Further information is available at the Webby Award-nominated official website, www.maverickssurf.com, powered by Bolt Media. Sponsors of this year’s contest include Verizon Wireless, Hard Rock International, Clif Bar & Co., SURFER Magazine, REACTOR Watches and Doc’s Pro Plugs. My son Hunter just called and says its gorgeous up at Mavs. He is the videographer on a boat. John Mel called my son yesterday and asked if he wanted to go for a little boat ride.

Out the door at 4:40 AM and towed John's boat up to Mav's. John also has Quiksilver reps onboard. Look for a Stripper model boat about 28 feet.

and while standing around this morning Hunter was able to help Jeff Clarke launch his ski.

All the PWCs mulling around the line up are contest officials and rescue personnel.

Just watched sets pouring into Pleausure Point and spots south. Not a breath of wind and warm sunshine kinda day.

If any of you suscribe to Surfline.com, they've already got an excellent video of the contest available for viewing. Those waves were genuinely big and perfect!
