BRITISH KNEEBOARDERS CROWNED WORLD CHAMPIONS.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 January, 2007 : - - Britain’s continual rise to the highest heights in European and global watersports was continued this week with two immense victories at the 2007 Kneeboard World Championships in Santa Cruz, California, USA. Jody Winter from Newquay took to the podium to claim the Ladies World Champion and the International Surfing Association crowned Richard Smith from Polzeath as the Pro Junior World Champion.

Natalie Silverthorne also from Polzeath consolidated the British success by taking second place in the women’s event. These are collectively the best ever results for the British team in the continually growing sport of kneeboarding and represent a major victory for the committed individuals.

Richard Smith excelled in the Pro Juniors final using good contest strategy to dominate the best waves and showcase his surfing much to the delight of crowd. And Jody Winter ruled the entire women’s event, storming through all of her rounds, closely followed by Natalie Silverthorne who also excelled throughout, illustrating that British women have the edge against all other female competitors in the water.

Unfortunately there was disappointment for Karl Ward of St Ives who is being tipped as a future champion by the Australians and the Americans on the USA forum site. He was a victim of the wave drought that hit the semi-finals in the open and so finished 7th, still an exceptional result, in the overall Men’s title.

A delighted Karen Walton, National Director of the British Surfing Association said, “We are so proud of what the team and each of the individuals have achieved in the Kneeboard World Championships. As a British surf team attending a World Championships event, they have set new standards and have gone from strength to strength.

With the British Surfing Team bringing home a silver medal last year and Reubyn Ash taking the European Junior title and now two world champion titles amongst our kneeboarders, no-one can deny that British surfing is making an extremely strong mark on the international scene!”

Thanks Mark for your kind words to our team....most of whom are still not back.

Its not so much British Kneelos promoting their own but more a case being recognised by the governing body of British surfing....the British Surfing Association..... who put this press release out to Surfersvillage & many others.
This is far more important to us than blowing our own trumpet [sorry Surfhorn!

A huge, huge, huge Irish Maori thanks for the commaradirie, I think that is how it is spelt, anyway friendship that these group showed not only to me but to all that came in contact with them. They deserve all the praise that they have had bestowed on them by their association. I am really pleased to have met them all and will make it my priority to get to their next gathering. I have a couple of groms here that are just getting off their lids and onto kneeboards. So to see 2 world champions in action and potential world champions that are in this group will be a great asset.
We must keep in touch to get that European title together.
Once again thanks and thanks from all European kneelos for representing us all so well.

On behalf of the British team and associated HAB's and WAG's I would like to say thanks to everyone for there hospitality. Thanks to all the Americans for welcoming us to Santa Cruz, particulalry the ones who organised this well run event. Thanks to all the kneelos who made the event a fun occasion particularly the Aussie crew and that Kiwi/Aussie/Irish guy Robbie 'Ropes' Parrada, it was great to meet you all. Robbie I'll be in touch soon about trying to organise a European event and will definitely be pushing the international side of our October contest. Robbie you must be getting battered by the same gales and rain that we are isn't it great to be back in the storm lashed British Isles. That reminds me another person I would like to thank for his friendlyness is South Peak Brad. Thanks for the picture Brad its on the wall reminding us of Californian sunsets as the rain beats at the window.

randiego.........the spirit of the wreckers is still alive & well in the SW of England.....people were just helping themselves to those brand new BMW motorbikes, car parts...even a whole car on the beach

The downside is the potential of huge pollution in a very beautiful area

They are shutting the beach down tomorrow to try to curb the frenzy......but it will just mean more out in boats!

I don't think the ship is going anywhere, it has a massive crack in the hull for starters. A couple of weeks of heavy seas and it will start to break up.

Free goodies aside (items on e-bay already, including sand from the beach

), it's making a hell of a mess on land and sea and is going to cost a fortune to clean up
