More Swell Forecast Updates

Post by Scott »

Here is what Surfline.com is saying in their end of the week Northern California forecast as of Monday afterenoon, 11/3:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extended Outlook

North Pacific: It will be mainly steep and fading NW wind swell from this region in the next couple of days. By Thursday and into Friday a new WNW swell (280-290) from extra-tropical storm Parma will build with waist-shoulder high surf at the good spots and some bigger sets at best breaks. Further out, forecast charts are showing a small low developing off the coast in the next 48 hours which is expected to push inland on Thursday and Friday. This will likely set up some building WSW/W/storm swell starting on Thursday and biggest on Friday with sloppy conditions expected. We'll have more details as it actually forms.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Marine Forecast for the Monterey Bay is as follows (note: the SE winds are a somewhat sideshore wind for Santa Cruz):

WED NIGHT
SE WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT.
N SWELL 3 TO 6 FT.

THU
SE WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT.
MIXED SWELL W 3 TO 6 FT AND S SWELL 2 TO 5 FT.

FRI
SE WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT.
MIXED SWELL W 3 TO 6 FT AND S SWELL 2 TO 5 FT.

SAT
S WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT.
W SWELL 3 TO 6 FT.

Surf Forecast for the comp...

Post by Don »

All,

Waves:
Good news... there will be surf! It won't be huge, but rather in the very surfable range. Looks like from the forecast posts we may be dealing with a little wind, however know that the kelp at PP will help settle things down.

Guess this means it will be a true test of skill

There will be opportunities to surf outlying areas when not surfing in the comp. I recommend exploring the variety in the area.

Weather:
This low that's taken control of our weather has brought chilly temps to the area. Be prepared for some "brisk" morning temps and perhaps something to keep a few rain drops off you if one of the fronts comes through.

Personally, I'm really excited you travelers get to experience the gamut of weather up here! 8) 8) 8)

It's getting close... Are you ready?

Good and bad news on the weather. the storm approaching us for late Thursday is more westerly, so our temperatures will be warmer as compared to last week's storm.

But with the warmth comes a wetter storm. Rain is expected on and off into Saturday. Everyone may want to bring along rain gear...

Isn't this just like surfing; 'You should have been here yesterday...".
We had record breaking temperatures (high 80s and 90s) and decent waves.

But we'll do our best to keep everyone happy! - Dan

I just checked the lasted 8:55 am NOAA update. Apparently the models are now all over the place. They are huge variabilities in timing and power of this storm are being predicted. NOAA uses three weather models runnning simultaneously then averages the models or determines which ones agree with eachother then they make their forecast. None of the models are now in agreement. Bottom line is that there is a good chance this front may just fizzle out or sweep to north of the bay area. Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

I think this is all just a conspiracy by the NoCals to try to steal the title while at the same time discouraging their neighbors to the south from ever venturing north of Rincon again! Rain gear - what's that?

rain rain go away

Post by DarcyM »

It will be dry for the drive up Wednesday, but rain predicted for Thursday through Sunday! Hey, southern cali folks can handle. All you wimps in your hotels, motels and resorts, I'm gonna be CAMPING! (arghh). No tv, no HBO, no radio, no heat, and if the rain comes in, no campfire either! Sheesh, a glutton for punishment sez I.

What happened to that Burning Altar to the Surf Gods, Don?

see you all on Wednesday night!

Hold tight,

2:30 NOAA update is looking even more favorable. models are still all over the place and not in agreement. They have decided to downgrade rainfall amounts in forecast and think mostly light showers on thursday evening. There still is some doubt about it raining at all. keep those fingers crossed!!!!

The rain we can handle. The south winds that come with it will be the problem. :(

God, this SUCKS!
With the rain comes the runoff, and with the runoff, here comes every fish in Monterey Bay to feed......and we all know what feeds on the fish.
Pleasure Point is going to be a SHARK TANK.
Wow.....I guess nobody should move outside for set waves.

Not to worry. No major tributaries empty at Pleasure Point. Add in the extensive outside kelp cover and its all good.

Barely any waves today - which is good; it can only build!

Dan's right on two counts, it's flat and can't get any smaller and there are no river influences at Pleasure Point. But there is, and has been a lot of bait in the point area and every feeder visable is in on the feast. I've seen dolphin, sea lions, harbor seals, otters, and what ever is under, having a great time with the menu. Like the tides and the weather. this changes every day and I think this is going to be another "you should of been here yesterday" story. PRAY FOR SURF  Jon
