Nice to get a lot of that info up on the site so quick. I loved the slide show of all the hot surfing shots. So many strong kneelos!

For those of us who don't know how club competition works, can you give us a short summary?

Thanks!

This time around the contest was set up very simply.

Each team has 8 surfers, 7 opens and one junior. Ranked for surfing ability. 8 heats are run each with one surfer from each club. Judges determine the 1st 2nd and 3rd from each heat. Each result earns a certain number of points for each club and the club with the best results throughout all the heats wins.

it was great to put a face to some names! what a eye opener it was to see organized kneeboarding in OZ. it really had a bit of it all. friendship, rivalry, good natured ribbing and some fricken serious ripping. Keg was just a freak with no wetsuit, this bizzare board made with glassed bed sheets. (he's really taking the sex and surfing comparison a bit far)
he rode waves all the way down the beach almost out of site on this thing. there was just really too much going on to take it all in (for me at least) and then theres Stapo who's really like the only successfull cat herder i've ever seen with all these characters.
for all those i did'nt get to meet.... my loss, and to Brian who i introduced myself to 5 times.....oops

i'm getting it now
contests can be fun
if EQ says i told you so i'm gonna be nauseous

Rob, great slideshow/great pics! Looks like the surf was really fun and rippable.

Congrats to all of the competitors!

Albert, were the heats matched, for example 1-8 for each team matched with corresponding seed from other team?

yes... which is probably why even after doing two airs during my heat I still got third! :P I was matched up against Gavin Colemand and Baden Smith!

Albert,

Just what I thought. It seems obvious to have done it that way.

Here's a brainstorming idea for the Clubs to consider...

Unless the rules are set in stone you guys could *consider* the format used in golf's Ryder Cup. On the final day there are singles matches where the Captain of each team pre seeds his players into the various matches. Sometimes the strongest player goes first to build momentum, sometimes last to anchor the team. Points are earned for winning (1 pt) or a halve (tie 1/2 point).

Since this is a Team Event and the goal is to win as many heats as possible, or get 2nd instead of 3rds, would it add to the intrigue if heats were held private until an official revealing of how Captains want their surfers to go out? Unlike regular comps where you hope for the strongest surfers to make it to the Final for a showcase heat it seems to me that a Team event could be set up differently. Of course, you could always keep the #1 seeds for the final heat but use a blind seed process for the 1st 7 heats and keep some of both approaches.

NOT to dampen or criticize in any way such a great event because you guys know what you're doing, just thinking outloud :D But if anyone wants to tell me to mind my own buisness and go surf 1 foot slop that's what I'll do (..I have no choice :( )
