Jalama BBQ

Post by barry »

I was curious to see if anyone is interested in Tri Tip at the BBQ?
If this fits in to your meal plans and you feel like grubbing big then give me a PM so I will know how many lbs to bring. It cost about $5 a lb. Please notify me ASAP because I will be shopping for the trip on Monday and traveling up early on Wednesday. Also there is a forum for the BBQ in the gathering section so check in with Jon to notify him if you can bring something to add to the feast!!!!!!! the waves have been good down here with a DOH south, also looks like we should get some Good swell for Jalama, it's going to be FUN!!!!!!!!!

Jalama Kneelo Ballad
by southpeakbrad

Chorus:
South vs North, North vs South. Central Cal, Jalama County Park.
The South came up. The North Came down.
Expression session, everybody wanted part

Vs1
Drivin on Highway 1 today, dreamin of Tarantulas and big racoons.
Jalama burgers and fires out under the moon.
The South's got Jack! The North they ain't got (J)jack!
But all that matters is TEAM U S A !!

vs2
You gotta drop in late and pull in deep. Hit the lip and throw BIG spray.
Then look for yourself on K S U S A.
The South's got Jack! The North they ain't got (J)jack!
But all that matters is TEAM U S A !!

Vs3
Well it's rocket's red glare and TOO much wind.
It was the South that got the win.
Point Conception Cup, even without Tom Linn.

Last Chorus
Thank you Jon, Thank you Barry. Thank you guys for all you've done!
The South came up. The North came down.
Expression session, everbody wanted part.

Vs4
We wanna thank you Mike for all you've done.
We all agree you're quite the bloak.
But tell us please is it Lahm-pok, Lome-poke, or Lahm-poke??
(i.e. Lompoc)

-this is a little song I wrote and sang for the Jalama gathering and Humbly submit for your enjoyment :D

Special thanks to Mike Schmaeling, Barry Baker, and Jon and Nora Manns. AWESOME job!!

UKELELE

GRASS SKIRT

Next Gethering, you're on deck for a performance. I'll bring the bongos!

I'm sorry to have missed this fine gathering of all you outstanding KBers.
But I had my parental duties to perform.

So, as the proud dad here are the results. My son, Hunter, set a new school record (18 y/o record) in the pole vault: 14'1"......won the 110yd hurdles.....won the high jump at 6'2".......and took 2nd in the 300 yd hurdles. He won the award for outstanding varsity boys track athlete also. On to CCS (sectionals )in 2 weeks and state on June 4 & 5.

But the great news is that he graduates on June 10th and I can get my sorry butt back in the water! It killed me to think of all you lucky KBers down at Jalama. What I really wanted to see were the looks on the standup's faces when they saw a ton of KBers in the water at the same time. Priceless!

This was my first gathering, and it was great to finally meet so many of you. Great surfing if difficult conditions. I'm impressed and inspired.

Mike - thanks for all of the hard work setting this up.
Barry - you couldn't find a more enthusiastic host for the competition
Jon, Nora - the food was great
Tom - Awesome trophies

See you in the water . . . joe

Unfortunately, due to our hastey retreat I was not able to say thanks to every one that made last weekend such a blast! Mike S. deserves a lot of waves at the next gathering for putting his reputation on the line for the bag of mixed nuts that we are. Tom B. for the insane trophies, those of you that were not there missed out on some real nice art(Tom also ripped in the final). Barry, should be the contest director and M.C. for all future events of this type, he kept it loose and fun(he also dominated the final making complete dog doo look fun). Barry's girlfriend Jody for adding up all of the judges chicken scratch. Mike B. for the Hurly gear. And the Mans' for cooking what smelled like a wonderful meal in the middle of a sand storm. I just wish we could have stayed to enjoy it.
Oh, I almost forgot, the South WON!!!! With Barry, Tom Backer and Bill Lerner leading the charge.

Great fun except for the wind! My eyes are still burning & RED from the
salt spray (should have borrowed Scott's groovy goggles)

-Mike: THANKS for organizing the camp sites & keeping us organized.
-Barry: THANKS for organizing the "Expression Session" (that had a striking
similarity to a surf contest.) You did a GREAT job keeping it together.
I knew when I saw you catch a wave on Friday PM - you'd be the one to beat! Great surfing!
- Mr. Backer: excellent surf trophies - would like to see you in GOOD surf!
- Hosey: Love that smile & attitude! Thanks for the kind words on "style"
- Fred: Gave you a high score on your 1st wave - great surfing!
- Bill L: still surfing great...
- Matt: Thanks for the ride up - sorry I didn't join you in the "Princess tent"!
It was great swapping surf stories - fun time.
- Scott & Joe - Thanks for taking photos Joe - Scott, love your new board.
Glad you guys got some good surf earlier.
- Mike G: We love ya too man - Best of luck to you guys on your big adventure! Keep us up to date.
Ler - THANKS for bringing all the Hurley goodies - you always make me smile!

and Don: THANKS for making it ALL happen with this site!

To EVERYONE else - GREAT seeing you!!!

Walt

Next Year - we better give D.W. a rematch!

First I want to thank Barry for the contest. Second I want to thank Mike for getting the campsights, and third I would like to thank everone who was there for a GREAT time. Lori and I had to leave early as most of you know, but we pulled into O'side around 2:30 and got Jebb (our dog) to the vet where he lost 2 more toenails in front of the doc. They took blood for testing and cultures of what was left of the toenail. The blood tests came back O.K. and we are waiting for the cultures to come back. It lookes worse than it is, so the doc says. And at least I was home for solid 10ft faces and low tide barrels at the south jetty on sun with 5 other kneelos. Some of the local crew were mift because they thought we were in Jalama. To bad for the foot boarders. THANKS again for a great time. Greg...

This weekend was a blast, in fact I haven't been blasted by wind, spray and sand like that in a long time. Many thanks to all the new and old faces that showed up I now have at least ten new friends just from this gathering All who survived the weekend we will share that story for years. I have more but for now the shot in misc. photos sums it up for me. The heart and soul of kneeboarding lives in these moments.
To all the family and friends who made it. What a great crew to put up with us. Thanks Jon
