Cant tell you how long I have been waiting for this contest to come back around... Especially to have another shot at Ed Quinn for beating me in the finals of last years Surf Bowl.
Unfortunately I will not be attending as I am currently living in some s*&^ town with no waves in Australia.
Anyway, I want to say that Ed Quinn may not get thoroughly beaten by me at the Surf Bowl, but we can leave it till Tahiti to settle the score...
Im after you Ed!!!

I have attached a photo of OB from today.
Looks like the contest will be a Right Barrel fest tomorrow. (It's supposed to bigger )
Ed
P.S. Wayne, I'm so in your head, you already fell on your first wave.
P.S.S. Albert, you better stay in Oz untill you WIN a contest. I know you got the DVD of BLUE CRUSH for Xmas and you're all fired up, but remember... The Chick was hot, but she still lost!...and you'd look like crap in that bikini.
I'm sure Coach Parkes and Coach Farrer would agree with me when I say;
"Aim your arrows high, Grasshopper."
I'll see you when you got game.

Awesome trash talk! That's what we need around here...too many love fests lately!
Jack Beresford
Beyond the trash talk, if we want the Surfer Bowl to reflect somewhat the Super Bowl spirit, we have to talk about wagering. And as everyone knows, during this weekend you can wager on just about everything. So, here are some of Jafo's notable odds and lines for this weekend's contest. Anyone who wants to send me money can do so at their own risk! (Hey, I'm sure your chances of actually getting paid by me are just as good as being paid by one of those offshore on-line or 800-number casinos!)
Surf size: Over/under is head-high* sets.
*in comparison to stand-ups.
Odds that:
KB's in the Surfer Bowl will outnumber Carolina Panther points scored in the Super Bowl: 3-to-1
Some poor KB will hit the pier: 20-to-1
A random observer on the beach will say, "Why don't those guys just stand up?": 5-to-1
The same random observer will step on a discarded hypodermic needle buried in the sand: 100-to-1
Someone will try to rip off Ler's boards: Even money.
Ler will go ballistic if he catches the perps: 100%
Mike Garrett will forgo his spring suit for a Speedo (keep in mind this is San Diego, not Santa Cruz, and therefore much warmer): 10-to-1
Ed Q will successfully defend his title: 3-to-2
Wayne K will dethrone Ed Q: 4-to-1 (Sorry, Wayne)
Darcy M will catch the set wave of the day while Ed Q and Wayne K are busy trash talking: 2-to-1 (Go, Darcy!)

Re: contest
...OK Jack. Good thing you'll be singing "Happy Birthday" with 13 kids tomorrow b/c if you were to be in my heat your string of winning every heat you're in would come to an end.Jack Beresford wrote:Awesome trash talk! That's what we need around here...too many love fests lately!
...and EQ, forget about Albert. Based on the cool pics Darcy posted you need to consider Darcy *and* All * of us before you put the finishing touches on your victory speech..
(how's that? )
HEY, easy guys! Easy.
Just because I'm the sexiest, most glamorous, most fabulous kneeboarder ever...and just because I gave Albert $3 for "kneeboard lessons" after I spanked him last year... and just because I know all the San Diego guys threw a party when I got DQ'd in Santa Cruz 'cause none of them wanted to face me... doesn't mean I'm cocky!
It just means I'm honest.
So, for the record, I'd like to say that even though I got the flu and I'm injured, if anyone thinks they're getting a wave from me tomorrow, Good Luck!
I'm gonna be boxing out so hard, you'll need to paint your face and sing "Pop Goes The Weasle" to get a wave.
(Hey Albert, that was a Jack in the Box joke, in case your lost.)
See ya at 7am.
Ed
P.S. Oh...and Darcy...your on my list.

I'll just sit out the back and talk to myself ... you boys go on ahead and get all aggro or whatever it is you do ...

Darcy,
I'll be cheering you on from afar. Wish I could make this event... seems I've missed the last 3...
Based on your results from the US Champs, remember you took home the hardware and left quite a few others wishing they'd taken off a littel deeper
So, with that said, Ed - leave the mirror at home... you've got your work cut out for you!
(easy for me to say some 500 miles away!)
Good luck to all and remember... Whining is everything... I mean Winning... I mean Full Sail Amber... Yeah that's it - Full Sail Amber is everything! Beers are on Ed!

Contest is on for next Saturday. Same Bat time, same Bat Channel. I know many of you were afraid to face me in this contest. I can understand being intimidated by the knowledge that I might attend. Anyway, if you can deal with getting your butt kicked, or, you just want to prove me wrong, contact Bob Welsh and get yourself in the contest. Hopefully we can increase the turnout over this morning's 12 contestants.
PS Quinner- you are going down.
PPS Albert- you never had a chance anyway

The current NOAA WWIII forecast is for a modest NW swell (slightly out of the wave window) to peak Saturday (2/7). Wind-wise there is a disparity between the FNMOC NGP and EFS models. Both models are indicating a bit of wind, but...
...the latter model indicates a NE wind Sat morning, becoming more easterly (offshore) in the afternoon. The former indicates a more shore parallel wind in the morning, becoming more northeasterly (and more offshore)in the afternoon.
Sounds a lot better than yesterday's (Saturday's) weather.

Experience gained is in proportion to equipment ruined.
Great To See all of you on Saturday.

Contestants,
Sorry to all for the weather bust. First time we've had to call the
event. Bound to happen eventually. At least the extra week means more
guys may be able to make it.
The OBG's thank you guys for making an appearance inspite of the obvious
foul weather and we sincerely appreciate your continued
support.......Who else has ever fed kneeboarders for the inconvience.
I'll accept all new entries recieved by Thursday Feb. 5, 2004 from those
who would like to participate.
I'm camping Friday, Sat, and Sunday so won't be accessible for any form
of communication.
I'll make out the heats before leaving and will mail them to each of you
to illiminate any confusion priot to, or at the contest site.
I will return and be there Sat at 6:30AM to run the show, then surf down
south afterwards, before returning to my other gig.
Surf will be up again, but the winds are very unpredicatble right now.
The NEP animation is showing some very abnormal patterns developing Wed.
Who knows what's gonna happen this time of year. So everyone best eat
some extra Wheaties this week and pack on a few extra lbs of carbo fuel.
You are gonna need it.
Thanks for the turn out. We'll see all of you bright and early.
Mahalo,
RW
