Lifted from the oz site:
Coffs.Day one.
I Just got off the phone with Stapo who is at Coffs, he says the swell was pretty large and very trying today, everyone was having a go, and the standout for him was Parksy, riding a four fin flat rockered board, that according to Stapo was flying.
Special mention, Albert Munoz, helped save a woman caught in the horendous rip on the south end of the beach today. Stapo said it took Albert allot of effort and quite some time to get the woman to shore, well done Albert.
The competition has wrapped up for the day and they were all off to the HoeyMoey for a feed and a beer.

Tomorrow looks to be more of the same, with a large East Coast swell pounding the coast, lots of luck to all the compeitors.

Coffs Day two.
It looks like they really copped the swell at Coffs, and by all accounts some of the crew were up to the challenge. Stapo said the final was held in mountainous seas with the competitors sitting about 200 yards further out than the point.
The finalists were Albert, Chayne, Parksy and Simon.
Stapo said it was one of the better exhibitions of big wave competitive kneeboard surfing he's seen, in very trying and treacherous conditions, and his hat goes off to all the competitors at the competition.
Ill put a complete comp report when John returns from Coffs within the next few days.
Hopefully one of the photogs will send us a few pictures to go with the story.
Rob
Big swell here. Must be equally humungous in Coffs.

Interested to see the results. Also interested in more on Parksey's flat rockered board. Who will put me out of my misery? Don't suggest the local gendarme... :)

(Hate to say this, the more I hear about albert the more I am beginning to like him. Scary.)

1st Dave Parkes
2nd Simon Farrer
3rd Chayne Simpson
4th Albert Munoz

Dave told me he caught the biggest wave in a comp, that he had caught in a comp since West Oz in 83  and he was riding a 5'10

Apparently everyone was ripping. in very testing conditions

check the OZ site for Robs update

Results of the Open Final

In what has been described to me as some of the best surfing in a final anywhere in a long time, Dave Parkes was a clear winner, scoring two tens during the final, one was described as a 10ft, deep black holed barrel from which he emerged to the screaming cheers of the watching crew, Simon wasn't able to find the waves he needed to make the impression he normally would, Chayne pulled off one of the biggest reo's of the contest on a monster heaving lip, Stapo couldn't believe he didn't either break his board or himself in the attempt, I haven't heard to many more details at this time, John rang me last night after the presentations and said when he gets back he will supply us with a detailed report.
John said the overall contest was an outstanding success with a tremendous positive vibe all weekend.

Thanks Steen.

Congrats to all the finalists. Especially Parksey :) Sounds like one for the kneelo annals.

(Glad I was home in my uggboots wrapped around the fire, rather than out drowning somewhere in Coffs :) )
