thats a good lineup coming, really looking foward to seeing simon surfing in the flesh.
would also like to see an air fest at opunaki beach from those who know how.

dont forget your booties, its almost all rocks in taranaki, and the rocks have teeth in the the form of sea urchins at low tide.

NZ World Titles

Post by stevea »

Simon thanks for posting a list of entrants dont know why it was left to you is that for winning the oz title dont answer that this is my whinge not to those competing but those administrating
I might be the only person not going who has an interest in the make up of the oz team but from the names i see and recognise its a strong strong team surely worthy of some sort of promotion through any media available
How is Surfing Australia ever going to give more than a seconds thought to kneeboard surfing if K S A cant manage to provide some words and pictures prior to the event ,along the lines of team U S A and team UK
For example the Novokov family for those who dont know Michael is the father of Matt and Tom ,Michael was a multiple world champ not only that his aerial surfing assault was years before its time .Imagine 3 world champs in the same family
Or the potential emergence of Chayne Simpson as no 1
The showdown between Gav and Simon the 2 most explosive and competition savvy kneelos going or whos going to be the wedge maybe Albert and watch for the dark horse slipping through unnoticed till its too late
Not to mention Baden or Nov or Parksie
From what i can see this is going to be the tightest contest ever with Barry Baker richer for his 99 foray and Tom Baker an obvious threat then the U K contenders already accustomed to cooler water and from the little ive seen via video theres top 12 material for sure
The NZ contingent on their home breaks ensures everyone will surf above themselves
So who will be the top 12 this is my fearless prediction 7 Aust 2 U S A
2 NZ 1 UK

GO TEAM OZ

add to the list above

dark horses
Randy Reid
kelvin Weir
Darren Gibbz
Pommy andersen

serious contenders
Matt Gallagher - open finalist nz99, tahiti04?, santa cruz07
Karl Ward "ripped it off the top in Sants Cruz" - qoute from Ed Quinn the showman from Santa Cruz during event commentary.

Can anyone match Gig's and Ed's efforts on the mic in NZ

would love to be there, but....... anyway looking forward to seeing the pics and results and reading the stories. From what I've seen (which isn't much), I'll be surprised if these guys don't make the top eight in the opens:

Albert Munoz
Chayne Simpson
Gavin Colman
Simon Farrer

It would great to see David Parkes and Michael Novakov in there too.

best of luck to everyone who'll be there and safe travels

Stevea and everyone else...I like the predictions! It's fun to try and narrow it down but hard when you know (especially in AUS), the level of competition that's going to be there. Then realize tenths of a point can make the difference between moving on or being eliminated and it gets crazy :D

All I can say is good luck Team Everyone else, and good luck Team USA!
