Pa’ and ‘Ma’ Bendall Memorial Contest 14 -15 February 2009

Post by Shelfbreak »

WindanSea Boardriders Club is holding the 35th annual ‘Pa’ and ‘Ma’ Bendall Memorial Contest at Caloundra (Sunshine Coast - Queensland) on the weekend of 14-15 February 2009.

The memorial contest honours two pioneering surfers in the district affectionately known as ‘Pa’ and ‘Ma’ Bendall (both now deceased).

The contest, has since 2006, included a kneeboard division.
Craig ‘Splashy’ Ashdown won that year, Baden Smith won in 2007 and last year’s winner was Simon Farrer. The shortboard divisions (various age groups) frequently attract high calibre surfers.

We would welcome the participation of local, interstate or any visiting overseas kneelos interested in being involved in one of Australia’s longest running surfing contests.

If you are interested please PM me your contact details and I can email or post you an entry form.

Anthony de Fries
on behalf of the WindanSea Kneeboard Division

Always keen to see more kneeboarders in the water. Especially ones who can lift the sports profile.

Love to be there, Anthony, but I'm wondering if I'll have a job to come back to the way this economic downturn is affecting businesses in the 'Gong - on the positive side there might be more time to surf during the day - sorry guys. Say a big hello to Daz & Cheryl also Col & Janine for me when you see them will ya.
Anybody thinking of going, the boys have been running a very credible kneeboard section in a prestigeous (spelling?) event.....just have a look at some of the names of past winners Simon Farrer, Baden Smith & Craig, a great show piece for the sport.

Cheers Wolruss

No worries Russ

Seems like only last week employers were bemoaning losing half their workforce to the mines.

Hot and sticky up here today, at least we have had a reasonable run of trade wind swell since Xmas.

Hey, Byron looks like the swell will hang round for the weekend.

Regards

Anthony

A good swell will help me get over the grumpies from the fine I got from the men in the blue shirts last weekend. "Following too Close"!!! indeed.''
At least Rhys and I got a few waves at Cartwright to help make up for it. At least I am contributing to the government coffers
Keep in touch i am planning to come up sunday.
Cheers,
Byron

:D Hello folks, still got some good memories from last years contest.
We lucked out a bit with the surf, but it was great watching Simon & Baden in the final. Not only did they make the most of the conditions, they showed everyone how to surf.
Great to catch up with some friends.
After the comp, i managed to catch a classic Noosa. 6` offshore, blue skies, 250 yard rides and most of the holiday makers gone home.

:D G`day Scott and the rest of you mob.
 Not just waves, warm weather & water and friendly people at the moment. Fish have been biting well lately.
Recent rain has flushed out the rivers, creeks and estuaries. More so up north but pleanty of fish being caught on the Sunshine Coast.
Nice way to spend a balmy summer evening and literally hundreds of miles of waterways to choose from. (don`t need licences in queensland-just aerogard)

WindanSea Boardriders have now closed off the Kneeboard Division for this weekend’s Pa and Ma Bendall Memorial Competition. We have 16 competitors and 2 reserves.

It’s really pleasing that interstate kneeboarders make the effort to enter. Thanks to KSUSA, KSA, the Australian kneeboard clubs and shapers for helping us promote this comp.

We are delighted that current world champion Gavin Colman is coming up, as are Albert Munoz, Glenn Bitton and Darren Gibbz. The only downside is that Baden Smith is a late withdrawal due to injury. The boys wish you a speedy recovery Baden.

Weatherwise we have a complex area of low pressure off the coast bringing strong wind and rain. Swell is increasing but there is more east in the wind than predicted.

Official heat posting is at the Caloundra CBX (pub) at 6.30pm this evening. I will send competitors more information this afternoon by email/text messages.

Southeast Coast Waters, Double Island Point to Point Danger:
Strong Wind Warning current.
Friday until midnight: SE winds 25/30 knots. Seas to 3.0 metres. Showers and rain areas.
Saturday: SE winds 25/33 knots, possibly reaching 30/40 knots during the day. Seas rising 2.5 to 3.5 metres. Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms.
Sunday: SW/SE winds 20/30 knots.
