Rincon Classic

Post by swheeler »

This is a contest held annually at Rincon to raise funds. A friend of mine entered the stand up in the masters division and had a blast and I figured why not ask them to include a kneeboarding division with a mens and a seniors or masters division for over the hill kneeboarders like me.

I have contacted the organizer of the event and if anyone knows anyone or would like to contact the event organizer in support of adding kneeboarding. I think that the event organizers can be contacted using this email address:

surfhappens@cox.net'

Sidenote: I just returned to the sport after 30 years (former big rock crew member in early to mid seventies) and I am loving it! I took an old Lis fish of mine and had a kid in Goleta use it to make me a replica, with improvements. I now watch the older stand up boys struggling to get into the waves while I am getting more than my fill at jalama, da lane (as in Mesa Lane), the strand, depressions and certain other select spots where barrels can be found.

Maybe El Nino will bring good surf for the contest so kneeriders can showcase their abilities right.. Too small and it would be a struggle.

Looks to be some swell coming this week for SB.

P.S. mid-period swell showing on harvest buoy, 285-295 currently.

What is the fee to enter? It might be worth it to surf Rincon with a few of your friends!

Please free to tell the contest organizers that we can produce a field of 12 to 24 kneeboarders if they are willing to add a kneelo division. We have done this several times in the past and have conistently generated at least 15 entrants. If we get the go ahead let me know via a PM and I will get on the horm to ensure that at least 18 guys show for the event.

Personally, I would be beyond stoked to have a kneeboard division at Rincon. I love that place and it is a great kneelo wave. You also might mention to the organizers the historical aspect. That is, George Greenough founded kneeboarding, the short board revolution and modern fin shapes at Rincon. We should have a kneelo division and call it the Greenough division.

The Greenough Division

I don't care about the actual contest, but Tom is right. Kneeboarding and Rincon go waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back!
I'm in. It's just a short trip from the ranch :)

Hey that's great idea to enter kneelo to the contest. Am in! I couldn't get to web site. How can I contacted them to enter? Can anyone PM with info.

Side note...The first time I saw a kneeboarder was at Rincon. In fact it was George Greenough. I didn't know who he was at the time. But I became a kneeboarder watching him surf Rincon. And I never wanted to stand up again!

I would enter a contest with his name attach to it! And to show how far knee riding had progress over the years!!!

Hey, SWheeler, are you Steve who I see at MLane?

One thing to be careful about is the that Rincon Classic bills itself as a locals good time, so I'm not sure how the organizers will respond unless we highlight the local interest.

I'll send Chris Keet an email ... how 'bout you MasonS, you in?
