Idea: Fundraiser to Send Groms to Worlds!

Post by albert »

Hey everyone,

How about we 'rinse and repeat' the same idea we had back in 2007!

It was a great success, no children were harmed, sold to gypsies, or mentally distorted as far as I know.

I think it was overall a very positive initiative that exposed three groms to some of the worlds best kneeboarding. They had a blast, surfed their brains out, and gained some worldly experience. All thanks to the efforts of the people on this site!

http://www.ksusa.org/Forum/viewtopic.p ... c&start=0
I think that through the 10 or so pages of posts on the linked thread, we discussed in great depth and breadth the positives and negatives to this initiative. All in all, the naysayers lost and the whole thing went forward, with amazing results.

Thanks
Albert

There were "naysayers" !?!

WhatTF-WhyTF-WhoTF would object to it? :?

Will there be / is there now, a link to make a donation through?

Get it up there ASAP.

Bud, LOL.

Great idea; who will hold and distribute the funds raised?

Can't say I don't hate the idea of this haha :P
When I went over a couple years ago is was the best time of my life, and I really hope I can make it for the worlds. If this idea does go through, I know for a fact who ever goes over there will have their life changed. It's not just about the competition, it's a lot bigger than that.

Cash is king generally but contra is good also.

I will ensure safe passage from Melbourne to Phillip Island with apick up form the airport and organise the return to Melbourne after the event.

I think we can find a bunk room in a house for 5 days that will sleep 4 smelly grommets. If they keep there noses clean will get them to the beach each day and around the island

As long as they dont mind a raging 1 1/2 year old tearing the place to bits I can house some groms.

I should also have enough room in my car to take them surfing the necessary 8 times a day.

I'm in, 2007 was very satisfying for those that participated, and hearing what you have to say, Sam C, makes it all more so. Please, KSUSA, get something up so we can enrich a groms life, by enabling them to attend the Worlds next March.
Have already offered Brad103 a place to stay if he can get a leave pass and approval to compete...in saying that I imagine this fund would be a global affair, as Brad is from South Africa.
Just a question..if this fund, assuming it's a global affair, how would we go about selecting the likely suspects ?? I would assume there would be a number of candidates that would love to make it, so possibly a short list be made.....just some idea's.

Onya Albert, I've had my days of 1 1/2 yr olds filling nappies so I'll have to pass on the room mate.

Russel, this very same question came up in 2007, and it was addressed back then.

I hope that link works, it should take you to page 6 of the original thread from 2007, a post by Jack Beresford (second from the bottom I think).

Thanks

Thanks Albert, I checked out the link....it works.
 O M G ! ! !
Now I know the Who / What / Why TF objected.
The last post at the bottom of the page was messed up.
I couldn't, wouldn't read it all.

Question???

On Jack's Beresford's post (second to last) there's a link for the donations.

Are we to use that?

Shouldn't there be a repost for the donation link and info Jack provided...updated?

Hey Everyone! It's great to see this level of stoke - just what KSUSA is all about. However, I'd ask you all to wait a brief while so the KSUSA executive team can talk and decide how to best make this happen. So take this time to scrounge your back seat for quarters, have a bake sale, Albert dunk tank, or whatever but please hang tight on any "official" KSUSA program until we get our act together.
