2004-2005 Kneelo competition schedule- need your input
I have had tentative discussions with The Western Region Surfing Assoc. about adding a kneeboard event in their existing comps for certain dates. Your thoughts regarding these dates would be appreciated. I'm interested in knowing who might be interested in attending some or all of the events. Most of these events (except the Santa Cruz Keeboard Festival and World Titles) will be single elimination and competition oriented.
5/9/04 Oceanside, CA- good Opportunity for a 2004 World Title tune-up but confilicts with the Jalama Gathering
Jan 05- Surfer Bowl, Ocean Beach(San Diego), CA
2/12/05 C Street, Ventura CA
4/5/05 Pleasure Point, Santa Cruz, CA
5/9/05 Oceanside Ca
July 04 and 05 - US Champs at Oceanside
Nov 05 - 06- Santa Cruz Kneeboard Festival and/or World Titles, Santa Cruz, CA
Your thoughts and input are much appreciated.....................Tom

contest input
Tom
I am for the idea of setting up a comp schedule. I think that it is in our best interest to do the events at the best locations possible. All point breaks and or reef breaks would be best. O-side is cool due to the high possibility of good surf. I haven't seen the schedule of events but if they still do one at seaside reef that would be another good choice. as for C-street I feel that is a Prime contest venue due to the high performance factor of the wave even if it's not huge or barrelling. the possibility of tying together multiple turns is an important factor as far as competition goes.

High peformance factor of the wave??C-street??? Except up at pipe, it is a longboard only wave and at pipe you will have local problems- most likely. I never have kneeboarded in a contest so I don't know jack about throwing pizza's and hopping but i always pass on c-street--there are much better kneeboard waves nearby .If it is good size it might be good fun for all though!!

performance
Ted
High Performance = doing off the lips, floaters, cutbacks, cutting back then rebounding off the soup. all definately possible at c-street or any other break for that matter. Performance is relative to the DESIRE and INTENT of an Individual.

Based on the lukewarm response to this topic and private correspondence I've recieved as well. I think our annual schedule will be as follows:
Jan Surfer Bowl, Ocean Beach, San Diego
July USSF Championshipps, Oceanside
first weekend in October USSF Western Region comp w/ kneelo event at Seaside reef, Encinitas
weekend before Thanksgiving in Nov- Santa Cruz Kneelo Fest/ US Titles
That's 4 comps a year plus the World Titles every other year. Should be enough to keep the competitive spirit alive and tuned.

I've heard thru the grapevine that Surfer Bowl in 2005 will be held the first weekend in February, 2005 -- that'd be Feb 5/6. Details to follow as soon as available.
Might conflict with some North Shore dates, or then again it could be a Cali-size tune-up for grinding tropical barrels?
