Contest has been put on hold till later when the tide turns.
Meet will be at 1pm.
More than likely the Open final will be last when tide is at its fullest.
The waves are around 3-5ft messy wind effected reforming right hand bank.
The open semi finals were cool to watch. Albert killed it with a 1st place Chayne did what he needed to do to get 2nd & I'm sure he has plenty in reserve.
2nd semi was interesting. Kyle had no one close to him, he got the waves surfed well & looked the goods. 2nd place was gut wrenching for me, Nov & Parkes were fighting for 2nd place. Wow! i feel for Nov as he got a wave just with a minute left maybe and surfed an ok wave solid with 4 to 5 turns nothing big but rail to rail on a face & finished with his trade mark 360 over the lip and was scored a 3.9 i think? or 3.8? he needed a 4 to get 2nd. NOT TO BE THOUGH
Nov surfed great the whole event. Matt Gallagar just had happen what happened to me. The ocean just gave him no chance.
So anyway, a few hours till it starts again.

Looks like I put the kiss of death on Matt by talking him up ... woops sorry ... :(

OPEN MENS
FINALS

Albert Munoz
Chayne Simpson
Kyle Bryaant
David Parkes

After my last effort I won't try and pick a winner out of that lot ... but in stating that ... wait for it ...
I'm feeling confident enough to predict that the winner will have the letters E and A in their name ...
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand.
While imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.

Albert Einstein ... Yeah Bert.

Thanks Simon. Great recap.

Yeah, scores said Novo lost by .1. Basically, the smallest margin of victory possible.

Looks like Final will be a battle.

Nov had a tremendous hit on his first wave that was scored very, much lower than the same hits yesterday.

Scoring system...

Post by Don »

Wondering if it's still delayed or if the scoring system is offline to keep the results unknown until the presentation... inquiring minds want to know! Good way to watch from afar. Congrats to all.

Cheers,

Don

Yes, Simon. Your reports are great and you can see how much we're all appreciating getting some commentary. And give 'em all a good spanking in the Master's Final!!

All of the sudden the live webcam results went black on me right near the end of Bob Gove's final (he was in second place with a few minutes to go, then zap!) and then early on in John Mel's final everything stopped. Frustrating!

Back up now...

John Mel has just repeated as World Champion in the Immortals Division by the slimmest of margins over young upstart David Condon: 9.75 to 9.70

Way to go, big John!!!!!

Open final...

Post by Don »

Congrats Albert! I'm sure it was a tough final looking at how close the sores were. So who's sleeping in their board bag tonight? (see the simon fb post).

Thanks to the comp organizers for providing us a window into the comp from afar.

Cheers,

Don

The Open Division Finals concluded over 15 minutes ago, yet no final scores were entered into the Results page and they've now moved on to the Team Finals, but this how the scoring was when the Open Final ended:

Albert Munoz, AUS 13.00
Chayne Simpson, AUS 12.25
Kyle Bryaant, AUS 11.50
David Parkes, AUS 9.75

The top wave of the heat was Albert’s 7.10, followed by Chayne’s 7.00

Congratulations, Albert, who was also the only one of the 2009 Open Final contestants (which included Coleman, Baden and Farrer) to make it to the Finals again this year.
