Kneeboard Surfing Champions

Post by southpeakbrad »

One small part of our sport is the competition aspect that a portion of kneeboarders participate in. Many have had some success at one time or another and know the thrill of making it through a heat, or another heat, or even making a Final. And a few have had the rare experience of winning it all and being the Champ. Rare in that only one surfer per event wins it all, but those who have been crowned Champion have often won more than once before or are regulars in the Finals, or always considered someone who could win it all.

Anyway, I thought it would be cool to have a place to refer to if anyone wondered "Hey, who won the PI Kneeboard Classic in 2003?" or whatever contest you may be wondering about.

If possible, I would think cumulative/historical lists that are complete would be the most useful rather than "in 1997 it was Jimmy, but I can't remember the other 10 years" In other words, ask buddies, send PMs, do some research so your lists are as complete as possible.

SET WAVE at Blacks for whoever gets all 18 years (or however many years) that the Surfer Bowl crowned a Champ! :D 8)

With all the ranting about changes to this site why not set up a honor roll of all contest winners from all over the world.Just putting in my 1.8 US cents in.
As the Aussie dollar is worth more at the moment. :P

Including minor wins, or just major contests? Mr. Bull, that makes it about $7. US for a gallon of gas. I'm wondering if there is a way to do PI without having to drive. :(

By all means, my intent was to have a spot to see all of the World Champions, all of the PI Kneeboard Classic Champions, and the winners of the other regular stops on the AUS circuit, the UK Titles, and even NSSA Champs from 20 years ago would be cool as well. I think Mike may have actually posted these in a prior thread. I'll have to check with RW on the Surfer Bowl winners. I was just thinking that a historical record with this information would be cool. Those events that are not as large or international as what I mentioned would be fine...if there's some history there. For instance, Surfer Bowl in OB went 18-19 years and while not always big there is some tremendous history there.

Good luck and thanks!

Mike it is possible to get to the island by bus.
You take the airport bus to the city(spencer street)
You then take a bus(coach) from there to Phillip Island(about 3 hrs).

You will need to car pool on the island, or rely on some of the aussies you met in NZ. Best place to stay without a car is Cape Wooolamai in a holiday rental home, try to stay close to the Colanades so you can walk to the consistent beachs nearby.
PM me if you want to do any or all the above and I will help out.
