Does the ISA World Gold Medal contest still take place with all sort of divisions, including surfing, bodyboarding and kneeboarding?

Another thought, the dominance by certain kneelos in certain regions underscore how needed the World Kneeboard Contest is as a venue to get everyone together and see how the countries are progressing.

Great idea suggesting this thread, Brad!

Hey Scott
The ISA discontinued the kneeboard divison at the World Surfing Games after 2000. Since that time they have sanctioned the KSI World Titles as the ISA champion.
Ken Stapleton, Murray Weir, Don Harris and John Mel should be be commended for negotiating with the ISA to get the sanctioning of the KSI events from the ISA.
Note the decision to do away with kneelos at the World Surfing Games was taken due to many ISA member countries not having kneelos who were competitive at international level.

Hey Jamie,

If memory serves, I think 2006 was won by either Baden or Kyle. You may remember it was the year of the really good left bank happening in front of the surf club that was absolutely pumping for the final and then went to crap for the age divisions. I was in that final along with Baden, Kyle and Mark Vandepeer(sp?).

Not sure why Gavin wasnt in that final, he ripped the age division.

Someone else can chime in maybe?

Kneeboard surfing champions

Post by stevea »

Since this post is about contest champions it would be amiss not to mention the 21 years? that the Duranbah contest ran from 1971to 92
The early years were dominated by Peter Crawford his surfing on his slab design fin forward approach (single) board changed the direction of performance kneeboard surfing ,thats another story
Is there anyone out there know the year by year winners
D.Parkes
J.ONeil
Soupy Sales
M.Novokov
Simon ,These guys may have won multiple times other great kneeboarders that immediately come to mind are
Craig Ashdown
Stewart Irwin
D.Ponsford
A bintang or 2 later might release a couple more
But the first kneeboard event was in 68 or 69 won by you guessed it P C
Please help D,Bah was a significant event in the evolution of design and performance for Australian Kneeboard surfing

I'll let you blokes search for the answers, but D Parkes won it three years in a row, don't know which, and here's a nice write up by Nick Carroll.

Surfing Champions

Post by stevea »

Jamie you are right although had he not passed away Peter Brieles? (help needed here fruitbat) had the greatest recall of Dbah i ever met even down to heat results
Mike great link thanks how do you find those things ,my idea of posting about Dbah was to put guys like Dave in a more overall perspective and inform a few who may have thought kneeboard surfing comps began in the 80s
Griz not going there till i can somehow get the full list of Dbah champs why coz the surfs flat my bodies rebeling after yesterdays session and its at least 10 hours till bintang o clock

D bah was never just a contest it was a 4 day party free for all, hearts were broken, laws abused and brain cells destroyed it was Darwins theory of the survival of the fittest at Kirra ,Greenmount ,Snapper Rocks and Duranbah
