Kneeboard Surfing Championships to be Held at Huntington Beach Pier Jan. 27 and 28

Huntington Beach, CA (January 3, 2012) – Huntington Beach Pier will be the venue for the best Kneeboard Surfers in the U.S. at the Kneeboard Surfing USA Titles and Festival, Jan. 27 and 28, 2012.

“This is one of the premier Kneeboarding events in the world,” said Don Harris, Kneeboard Surfing USA president. “Having our championships in Huntington Beach allows us to showcase some incredibly talented Kneeboard Surfers and surf-wise HB has really delivered the goods.”

Last January, the 2011 Kneeboard Surfing USA Titles was held on the south side of the pier in flawless head-high peaks. That event, won by San Diego’s Jack Beresford, drew a field of more than 80 Kneeboarders. To defend his title in 2012, Beresford will likely face several former U.S. Champions including Bill Lerner, Barry Baker, Tom Backer and Beresford’s younger brother Chris among others. In addition, several talented young U.S. Kneeboarders are expected to make their presence known including Sam Coyne, Chris Linn, Shayne Dimick, Evan Odom, Sebastian Perez and 2011 Junior Champion Sean Murphy.

Cynthia Wornham is expected to be favored in the Women’s division. The event will conclude Saturday afternoon with a highly entertaining team competition featuring an annual showdown between HB Kneeboarders and those from other regions. To enter the contest visit: www.ksusa.org.

The 2012 Kneeboard Surfing U.S.A. Titles is open to the public. Heats will begin each day at 7 a.m. weather and waves permitting. In addition, Sandy’s Beach Grill will host an official event gathering Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 6 p.m.

Sponsors of the Kneeboard Surfing U.S. Championships include: Aleeda Wetsuits, AquaTech Waterjet, Balestar Designs, Blast Surf Designs, Block Surf, Bolsa Clothing, Brand Id, C4 Waterman, Bully’s, Cove Deck Padz, Dafin, DaKine, Electric, Eric Shoelekopf, FCS, Flashpoint Surfing, Freeline Design, The Froghouse Surf Shop, Futures Fins, Joel Mayer Photography, Surfline, Skullcandy, Parkes Australia, Primo Beer, Pure Glass, SS Metal Fabricators, Sandy’s Beach Grill, Stone Fish Skegs, Trunq, Watermans Applied Science, Xcel Wetsuits and Volcom.

Established in 2003, Kneeboard Surfing USA is dedicated to promoting the sport of Kneeboard Surfing through competitions, kneelo gatherings and other activities.

Time to Enter!

Post by Jack Beresford »

I know a few guys are on the fence about entering...$100 is hard to part with and there are always other family and work commitments out there. We really hope you can join us - if not as an entrant - at least come by the beach or evening festivities!

The best part of these events is always being able to catch up with old friends and make new ones. KSUSA also needs your financial support through the raffle, merchandise sales etc. This is our one and only fundraiser to keep the whole operation running!

Looking at who's entered so far, I think the competition is going to be wide open and we could see some interesting upsets and first-timers in the final rounds! A few former champs either won't be able to compete or are still "iffy" about their participation. No big guns coming from Oz either. Maybe it's the year the next generation asserts itself?!

Two weeks to go...let's start channeling positive thoughts for another year of epic conditions and (at least) a little bit of swell!

Jack

PS: the surf's been just terrible in SD lately!

2012 ksusa kneeboard surfing titles

Long range surf forecast calls for building south swell Friday-Sunday, coupled with a larger NW swell on Saturday. All we need now is a Santa Ana and we're golden!!!

- Visit with old friends, meet new ones
- See racks full of boards from around the world
- Get some limited edition 2012 contest gear
- Great food and beer @ Sandy's every night
- Watch kneelo videos, and more on the big screen each evening
- Big time surf announcer 'Rock'n Fig' providing commentary
- Win grab bags full of swag
- Chance to get your hands on a sign copy of Surfers Journal Cover Kneelo cover thanks to Steen!
- Be one of the first to tour the 'Kneeboard & Papio history' exhibit at the International Surf Museum
- Visit the world famous Froghouse Surf Shop
- Share a brew with former kneelo champions
- Join a team for the infamous and always crazy TEAM EVENT
- Get your photo taken from several experienced surf photographers
- Star in the event video highlight reel
- Cruise legendary Main Street Huntington Beach
- Even get a tattoo

So what are you waiting for?
Even if you don't surf the contest,
come hang out, win some great prizes, bid on a new board or other great stuff, talk with our community on anything
from board design, riding styles, fin set up, epic safaris to far off places, to the old timers talking story of them "good old dazes"

Come on!,
Join the epic annual gathering of the Tribe starting the evening of Jan. 26

Thank you to all for your support of the Kneeboard Surfing US Titles. We had an overwhelming surge of last minute entries and had to close registration a little early when the Open was filled. If you have entered, please check the contest web page to verify that your name is listed.

If you were unable to register before the registration closed, and would like to compete, please e-mail contestinfo@ksusa.org to be added to the Alternates List. Alternates will be placed in the Open as spots become available.

If you are entered into the Open, but need to cancel for any reason, please e-mail contestinfo@ksusa.org so that we can move alternates into the main event.

Everyone is invited to attend the contest and the evening events, even if you are not competing. Stay tuned for more information on the event, evening festivities, Raffle Mania and Auction, and more.
