The 2013/14 Season TWL returns to action next Saturday (2/8) in Huntington Beach @ 9th Street.

Points leader Brad Colwell looks to secure his #1 spot as the tour moves into it's final two stops. Within striking distance are Sean Noone (1940 points out), HB Local Eric Peterson (2540 points out) and strong finishes in the two events from Paul Devoy or Chris Bermudez would put them back in the hunt as well.

Last seasons 9th Street event was the largest one on the 2012/13 tour, featuring Greg Shewman, the 1st NSSA National Champion and really fun waves. Conditions are expected to be cool, cloudy and the swell - light. The tour's final event will be staged March 22nd at the Oceanside Jetty, site of the 2008 US Titles event.

Moving into Post Season all the riders plus Tom Fish & Ken Cherryhomes will square off for the West Coast Championships Mid-May. Hopefully all the contestants will be back the weekend prior to July 4th for the “2013/14 National Championships”, as Huntington Pier plays host to the crowning event for the next Kneeboarding National Champion. Current Champion Ed Quinn, who did not compete this season, will hopefully be on hand to pass the 'fin' to the next winner.

Will Brad continue his run? Will Sean's explosive watercraft power him past Colwell, or will the uncanny style of Peterson win over the judges? Join us next weekend to find out.

The eligible eight reunited after a two month break from competition just north of the Huntington Pier for Stop 4 of the (TWL) SoCal Kneeboard Circuit/NSSA Southwest Explorer contest.

A beautiful sunrise greeted the crew with clear skies, light winds, glassy ocean surface and knee to shoulder high surf. The contest area was between two sandbars with light side current drifting contestants south. Air 62f+ / 17c Water 61f/16c

Because the heats weren’t run until 10:45, the tide was dropping, wind was picking up and swell was a bit more sporadic and smaller. In the first heat everyone managed to get a wave in then Brad and Eric hooked up with longer rides. With a minute fifteen left Chris found a nice shoulder and Tom Fish squeezed in a buzzer beater. The second heat had Sean and Paul coming out quick, Evan worked the middle of the area and Ken drifted south picking off lefts. With a long lull in waves the 15 minutes stretched and then ended with a whimper.

By the Finals the wind had kicked up to white caps, tide had hit the low point and the swell diminished to an ugly series of windblown spillovers. However this group of talented surfers shucked/jived and slid their way to some long rides, occasional shoulders and white wash launches’. Watching through the sun-glinted viewfinder one silhouette continued to shadow more waves then anyone else, Mr Colwell’s knack of making lemonade out of lemons helped cement his place atop the season two leader board.

The final surf of the season will be March 22nd, Oceanside Harbor and a good showing by these guys should give them a big push leading into the US Titles in April. Even though the waves haven’t cooperated this season, the camaraderie and stoke that happens on the beach when everyone gets together makes it all worth it.

We’ll then reset the leader board for the West Coast Championships in June and again for the National‘s in July. It’s anyone guess who will be the next Kneeboard Champion.

Another win for Colwell?! I think he needs to move up to the ASP tour where he belongs...

The second season of the SoCal Kneeboard Circuit on the NSSA Southwest Explorer Conference, (or as it's affectionately known the TWL tiny wave league) is set to conclude this Saturday in San Diego County at the Oceanside Harbor.

Conditions look to be similar to most of the other events this season, 2-3ft weak swell, cloudy and 60deg/15.5C. weather. These favor the points leader Brad Colwell, who gets the Season Two points win, that places him along side last years winner, Tom Linn. All kidding aside Brad has managed to use his size, paddling skills and wave knowledge to consistently get waves in less than contestable conditions stop after stop.

The real race will be for the Second, Third, and Fourth positions. Noone, Peterson, and Devoy will be jockeying for final ranking. Of course you can't count out Ventura's Chris Bermudez, who, if he makes the 3+ hour track down south, will be happy just to get out there and surf. And the guys will be looking for local photographer Joel5150 to capture any action through that 400mm lens of his.

More big trophies will be handed out for the West Coast Championships in May, this will give all the boys a shot at being NSSA West Coast Champ, lets hope we have real surf for that!

NSSA Kneeboard Circuit stop #5/5 at Oceanside Harbor today:

1. Evan Odom
2. Brad Colwell
3. Paul Devoy
4. Chris Bermudez

Challenging conditions again. Surf was windblown waist to chest high, inconsistent south swell.

Big Congrats to Evan on his first win, especially at his home break!!! 8) :D

Due to some spring break family obligations there were fewer than expected competitors. At the request of those present a final was run without qualifying heats. The final was very competitive with all surfers scoring waves. Evan took full advantage of his local wave knowledge catching as many waves as the rest put together. Evan and Brad looked neck to neck going into the final minutes but Evan's multiple hard tail slide cutbacks out pointed Brads longer waves. Evan scored a personal best 7.5 & 4.0 for his high waves in conditions that he described as fun surf.
