DAVID PARKES wins WORLD TITLE

Post by eqKneelo »

Great heat in tough conditions.

Hammish Christoper had it won till final seconds. Parkes got a bomb and pulled 9's to win in final seconds. Stuff of legends.

Chanyo 3rd. Nov 4th.

Way to go DP. I was surfing with his son Garrett yesterday at the US Open. He recognized my Blast and we started chatting. I wonder if he knows? 8)

Fantastic! David is a legend. :)
You know he quit uni to become a professional surfer?
At the time we all thought he was crazy.

Now we don't :)

Congrats to David,

Such a mellow guy and yet such a hot surfer and gnarly competitor. He is aging like a bottle of fine wine.

Way to go Dave! 8)

As a side note, I was down watching a few of the TRIALS heats at the US open this weekend.

As I watched Garrett Parkes heat, the announcer mentioned David as a kneeboarder and his surfing and competitive roots that influenced his son.

Note: It was one of the first times I saw Garrett surf live. He totally killed it with powerful turns, lip bashes and airs. He smoked everyone and won that heat.

The kid has a future in surfing.

Congratulations Dave you absolutely deserve an open world title ,feel a bit sorry for Hamish Christophers a fantastic result beating Chayno and Nov is no mean feat especially considering their competitive experience
Steeno your right Dave is and will possibly be forever acknowledged as the best surfer /shaper /competitor
I will add over any surfing discipline not to mention allround good bloke

Too bad the Open Final linked on this site and posted on Livestream won't run--I'd love to watch the whole thing. Anyone know a way around this to watch the video of the Final?

Congrats to Dave--he and his son are sure having a great year in competition!

Needless to say, I echo everyone's congratulations of David Parkes, he has been inspiring me since the first time I purchased a board and had a surf with him back in 2001. I know many of you have a much longer history with David through his surfing and shaping, and I envy those that have as his influence for the decades he has been a dominant force in the sport has undoubtedly helped raise the profile of the sport.

On a slightly different note, I am unable to figure out which video posted on livestream is the one of the open final. The one posted on the ksusa.org home page is the senior men's age division final, not the open final. The only way I can tell for sure is because Parkesy is not in this video and Matt Novakov (not Mick Nov) is surfing in it. Can anyone out there help identify which one of the videos on Pascal Luciani's Livestream page is the open final?

Thanks
Albert
