NSSA Contests in NorCal Now Open To Kneeboarders!

Post by Scott »

Calling all kneelos in NorCal who might enjoy surfing some regular contests in our own backyard. I have just learned that the NSSA that sponsors the contests in the Southern California area on a regular circuit, ending with the NSSA championships in Huntington Beach also has a "Northwest Region"; that's 4 events over the course of the year, culminating in the same national championships at Huntington.

I spoke with the NSSA rep and she said if just 5 kneeboarders would commit to the 3 contests, they would add kneeboarding heats to each of the contests, same as being done down south. Here are the contest venues:
* Saturday, December 6-- The Lane (on one day or the other)
* Saturday, March 14--The Hook
* Saturday, March 28-- Pleasure Point or the Hook (on one day or other)

Then the National NSSA championships are held at Huntington Pier on May 14-17
More on the schedule is found here: http://www.nssa.org/newsmanager/templat ... 4&zoneid=5

The costs are $65 per contest for the three Santa Cruz contests, plus $125 to become a member of NSSA, signing up online (if not already). That totals $320 for the three contests plus whatever is the entry fee for the NSSA Nationals.

If you have further questions or want to create a new opportunity for fun, hanging out, and building our competitive skills with uncrowded heats in some great breaks, get in touch with me. Let's see what kind of interest there is out there for this season. Use my email link below.

Good news Scott!
I hope there's some takers. Keep in mind that the West Coast Championships are a requirement to qualify for Nationals, and each of these is >$100 to enter.

It looks like there will be a crew for the NorCal events.

Doesn't look like they have to compete in the WCC..

Maybe we can ask the NSSA if we can skip the WEST COAST CHAMPS since it's redundant for the NATIONALS.

Hell, I might ask if I can surf the LANE contest. Nothing better than surfing that spot with only a couple other guys.

Thanks, Ed. The Creediler has been in touch with me but not Joe Kidd; maybe you can PM me his contact info.

Sounds like we may end up with enough to make this happen, if I hear from one or two more. Mike Neal appears to be in, too.

Mike, I'm absolutely expecting you to drive up for every event, photo it, and then write the killer journal report for KSUSA like you've done for the SoCal events! No use you entering the contest anyway as you'd just win every heat...

Heck yea that would be worth the fee. I got to look in to that.

To bad the Lane don't get no real waves that time of year

She's already volunteered to give us the pre-heat massages. Looking forward to seeing you up here, Mike (as is she!).

There is further progress now on the addition of three kneeboarding contests added to the 2014-2015 NSSA Northwestern Conference events. There will be two semi-finals and a final at each event for at least 6 kneelos who agree to surf the following three events (and pay for the three events in advance to NSSA):
  • Sunday, December 7, Steamer Lane
    Saturday, March 14, The Hook
    Sunday, March 29, Steamer Lane
There is a special registration NSSA kneeboarding form for these select dates. Email me for more information. Signup deadline is November 15.

It will be great to be surfing heats again with just a few of your friends at these prime surf spots!

Signups for the NSSA season need to be completed by the end of November with the first event at The Lane for Sunday, December 7th. What a great venue for the first kneelo contest in Santa Cruz for a number of years! And now that NorCal hold the KSUSA team titles, you know the competition level will be smokin' (I think you'll need to join us up here, EQ, since you've got the roots and are now part of the championship team!).

If you haven't been in touch with me directly, please PM me right away. There is a special entry form just for kneeboarders that NSSA has designed for these three events and I'll get it to you pronto.

Coming up, Mike Fernandez!?
