2004 US KB Fest: Housing

Post by surfhorn »

Here is the latest info on the Capitola Venetian. I'll put other places up ASAP but you may want to jump on this one quickly.

The Venetian is a very popular place and only has 12 rooms still available for our time block. The manager didn't budge much on price...he would only give us 10% off on Weds and thurs nites.

There are ocean view and non-ocean view rooms available as well as a 3 bedroom suite.......you can probably pack a lot of people in that one.

I haven't reserved anything so if you want one of these rooms call now - mention your with the US KB Surfing Championships:

The youth hostel is well used feature in Santa Cruz. There are many motels in the region but I'm trying to focus on the ones that are closest to Pleasure Point. In fact, there are B&Bs right along the point but are pricey.

We will also be putting competitors and visitors up in some private homes as well. Still getting that together. Also the possibility of a vacation home on the corner of 25th Ave. and East Cliff Drive.

Just made reservations at the Capitola Venetian and they would not give a discount until whomever spoke with the Manager calls back and grovels or something. Get's a little pricey on the weekends but booked anyways, could've bought a wetsuit!

Quadfin - I'll call the manager first thing Monday morning and see what he has to say. I'll also try and work out better deals at other motels as well.
Thats a long way to travel (and a lot to pay) not to get the best service.

I'm talking to the Best Western on 41st Ave today - hopefully for better rates than other places are willing to offer.

The usual water temp? Does that include peeing in your suit?....

The water temp hasn't dropped by mid November to winter levels but I'm thinking 52F - 56F degrees. Its 56F right about now and nice. It is all dependent on when the north swells and winter weather patterns start settling in.

A 4/3 full suit with booties should keep you toasty. A cap is always a good call to keep the wind out of your ears...and also serves to hold in body heat on those cooler days.

Just like in SoCal, the waters don't really start getting cold until after the first of the year into Spring. Nothing like the Dawn Patrol at Moss, walking over the frost-covered sand to the water's edge....

I just spoke to Duane Dioetz of the Venetian Hotel. Duane agreed to give all KSUSA members a 10% discount on their lodging for all nights except Saturday if you book your room by 10/17/04. They have about 9 rooms left and the cost start at $60 per night for the samller suites and goes up for larger suites. All rooms have kitchens.

Just tell them you are with the KSUSA and you will get the discount. This discount applies to every one who is already booked at the Venetian as well.

Contact info for the Venetian is at the start of this thread.
