S'up Guys (and Girls)
My names Kendall, some of you may remember me from Phillip Island the last couple of years. I'm the guy with red hair.
I turned 16yo today and i've been a kneelo for about the last three years. i am just so super pumped to be surfing at the moment having all the support from all the young and old guys. About two weeks ago i just came back from the far south coast of NSW. While being out with my dad (also a kneelo but old) at 5foot Moruya breakwall all of a sudden i look across and see this guy with flippers on. I'm thinking nah that can't be a kneelo, but it was.
To cut a long story short we said hi and imediately got along with eachother finding out that he was from vic like me.
After being out for a while i saw this set start rolling in and i was like this is all mine! while turning around i start hearing this guy swearing at me "Get out of my F***n way" and then his board hit me. It was this old guy on a longboard. I didn't even know he was there otherwise i would of got out of the way. As neither of us got the wave he started abusing me. He was alot bigger and i was in the wrong so i just didn't say anything. The next thing you know this Kneelo that i had been talking to paddled over and stood up for me. As my dad was on the next peak down the beach i was so grateful for this guy that i had just meet, otherwise who knows what could of happened to me!
All i am saying is that all of you guys are so cool with all the advice and support you have given me.I am finally entering in this years Phillip Island comp so if there is any advice you are willing to share that would be awesome!
Thanks so much,
Kendall

Hey Kendall.
nice to hear from you;
happy birthday; me too!! but much older:D
there are a couple of old guys (well, older than me) around here on logboards, that yell and scream to get out of their way too.
thing is, they can't steer too well... don't worry about it.
last year I had the honour of being told the same thing by Nat Young at Angourie, heh, I was nowhere near him.
have fun!

Hey seaweed,
I hear EQ is coming over to Oz soon get in touch maybe he could help you out. Are donkeys called donkeys in Oz?
when you started at 13 how big was your board compared to height and weight. My kids are getting older and I have been thinking about getting a smaller board for them. Your perspective on smaller/young adult boards would be very worthwhile to hear. What widths seemed to work best for you?

Hey Stemple,
Sorry it took a long time to reply. When i was 13yo my board was a:
David Parkes, 4 fin, 5'6" x 22" x 2.5" (thats what it says on the bottom
)
When i was that age i was about 5'5" but i was skinny (still am).
At the age of 16 i am still on the same board and find it good to ride. Now being about 5'10" and 56kg i find it easy to duck dive. Whereas at the start I did not.
I like to ride the shortest board that i can but most of all I want it to be fast
. I would just tell the shaper what i want in a board, where i want to ride it and stuff like that and then just put all my trust with them.
This year i am looking to get a new board (flashpoint) before the Island comp. All i have to do is save up for a couple of months

Kendall,
dont worry about guys hasslin ya.let your surfing do the talkin!me and my old man where a kneelo surfing duo and the old boy was (and still is
) quick to use his fists.enjoy having the old lad around to watch over you
.word of warning though,i found out the hard way,that a time comes when you are big enough to fight your own battles.
but that other kneelo was a legend for sorting that jerk out.
Stemple,when i started riding kneeboards(age 12)i had the luxury of having a shaper for a dad .at that time he says he was making me 5'4"s to 5'6" around 21" wide.but he kept me on the twinnies for many years for ease of turning.i'll try and find someone with a scanner so i can post some shots.
