Gun slinging American Kneelo convention

Post by Xmas »

I'm a bit bemused about the reference in today's edition of aquabumps

Link is as follows:

http://www.aquabumps.com/wk_ab/ViewPage ... nguageId=1

Thought somebody on this site might be able to fill me in......

ps: aquabumps is the site for a Bondi photog - some great pics and worth a browse.

Oh so the boys from the states have arrived. Look for Fernandez to post a few shots. He's got all the weapons.

The only thing those guys are going to be slinging is alot of Bintangs 8)

They're stoked, by the end of this week the Mentawai's should light with swell like a Christams Tree.

Mornin' Beeline, check below the first picture in the Selamet Pagi paragraph. It took me awhile to find it. Looks like Simon and the boys are "on site". 8)

The group is probably Greg Little, Mike Fernandez, Big Fred, Willy Kelly & Wessley.

I think that Simon's group is going in August.

Yes this is the california kneelo group
and they are having fun!
I talked with Big Fred and Greg this morning
(fred got himself a satelite phone)
They say that the waves have been about 10' faces
also mentioned that they surfed a few different breaks
and the water is about 86 degrees (now thats warm)

P.S. Simon's group will be in the water beginning of August and
from the quivers I have seen, there will definately be some gun slinging
going on

Talked to Big Fred again today
He said that everyone is gettting the tubes of a lifetime :!:
Fred got the biggest barrell of his life (so far) this morning :D
Everyone is getting super shacked!!!!!
They were joined by a kneelo from a different boat so 6 total kneelos
The other kneelo is from west oz I think his name is Rohan
was told he was charging even though his back looked like a pizza from a
previous session at HT's.

I was going to post this as well. I get the Aquabumps email each day as do over 20,000 other people from around the globe (per the websites official stats), so some good (maybe?) coverage for kneelos. Would've been good if the Oz crew were also over there, i'm sure the aquabumps dude would've taken a few snaps, what great coverage it could've been.

anyway, the kneelo crew have been mentioned in 2 of the daily emails so far, here they are:

1. Tuesday, July 11, 2006
Selamat Pagi. 6am, waking up to the glorious sounds of a stuck anchor wedged deep in the reef, my expectations for a day of size was low - thinking it was dropping off all night. Surprisingly, a very exposed south-west facing left hander was putting on some heat at 4-6 foot...not a sole out. 14 sec intervals, little or no wind and silky smooth surfaces only possible in this area - it's all good. 3 boats rocked up around 4pm to share in the indo delights...amongst them, the Gun slinging American Kneelo convention.
We've got a large swell heading in our direction for Thursday, but that's just boat tork - we've got no charts out here and skippers can tork it up...Jumpa lagi :: uge

2. Friday, July 14, 2006
If you're not with the program Aquabumps is currently being broadcast from a remote archipelago of islands 100 kms off Sumatra, Indonesia (until the 20th where normal reports from Sydney beaches resume). These images are being beamed back via Telstra Satellite from a rocking boat...

So far we've had a pretty bad run with conditions - rain and storms everyday, and a small swell chugging into these sharp reefs. Today was looking a lot more optimistic with a 4-5 foot soft right breaking metres away from a tropical paradise. Palm trees line every island... its like heaven. Swell is on the up...and it looks like the next 4 days will be the goods. We're motoring all night to find better waves...

There is currently 30 charter boats patrolling this area chasing waves...we've come across Americans (majority), Brazilians, Argentineans, aussies and a large contingency of South Africans. There is more tork amongst these boats than a WHO mag...here's a sample: a few weeks ago Sunny Garcia and his Hawaiian mates we're given a naval escort out of the region after having a brawl with a boat load of Brazilians. Rasta and mates are currently up north awaiting swell - heard they've scored nothing up there so far...Jack Johnson was just out here in the playground region staying in a new land camp...not to mention the gun slinging American kneelo convention that seem to rock up at every break. I think they're hunting bears...we're also one man down, Brett Newman had to head home after a shoulder injury...later, uge

Sounds like the boys are having a simular trip to the one we had in 2001... Six kneelos, three stand ups and Larry the body boarder on board. Good surf everywhere and beautiful weather the whole trip.

I hear that the new camp at Macas has what they call strike boats that can reach any spot in the island chain in an hour or less. 7 boats in all to transport the 70 guests to where ever they want to go at seventeen knots. I wonder if this is true...

At 17 knots you will only reach a fraction of the spots in the Mentawai chain in an hour or less.
Sounds like a marketing BS from camp malaria.
