Yes, that is the one and only George, Honolua Bay 1967 by John Witzig. I have to thank Dale Solomonson for sending it to me.
Where Dale found it I don't know. But then Dale's amazing, a real magician... like Hart.

How do you like this one? I've posted it before but it's a collage done by Scott, frame grabs from Innermost Limits.
Talk about living on the edge.

I look and squint and look some more... I see NO fins on that early spoon.

I think the only reason it is up on the rail soo high is that is all he has :?

John knows. With the wide tail, a spoon feels like it's starting to spin out on bottom turns. The fin is giving way,
the tail is giving way, and it feels for a second like it's going. But then comes the slingshot. If the wave is big
enough and you're going fast enough (above), the fin breaks out but by that point there's already been a
transition to the rail, a glass edge about the same thickness as a fin (below). It engages and takes over.
I don't know if Greenough knew all that before he built the board but if he did, the word genius definitely applies.

Check the Movie :)

Post by Damien o »

Sorry

the shots actually can be found as a part of the following movie

http://www.eastpacsurf.com/Short2.mpg

In looking at this movie you will see most of the fin out of the water as the rail bites into the wave[/img]

OK, go to

http://www.elecard.com/download/index.php

download the Elecard MPEG Player v 4.0.4 and install it.

Click on the link to the mpg files

http://www.eastpacsurf.com/Short2.mpg

and try to run it using the Elecard player. I have broadband so I saved it to my local drive. Unfortunately the short 2 mpeg file is 88meg in size.

The Elecard player is specifically developed for mpeg & mpeg2 files.

Hopefully you will get the movie. cheers Damien

I don't know whether you already had a link to this vid. It's the KSA promotional vid posted on youtube but easily accessed from the KSA site (about 2/3 down the page - hit the play button)

A lot of it is competition footage. Darn, now I realise why it's so hard to make the finals at a KSA comp!
