Amelia Island, Florida
I've got the week long family reunion in Amelia Island, Florida with my inlaws, neices, and nephews just before Labor Day. (Yeah, I'm thinking long in advance). I'd love to (and will probably need to) get away in the mornings for a surf, if it's available. Is there any good surf within reach during that time of year? If so, any of the kneelo tribe nearby?

Guys,
Thanks for the 411. I'll be there 8/24-8/31. How's it look then? Where are the breaks, or where can I get info on them? I grew up in S. Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) so my surf trips were pretty few and far between that far north.

Check out www.2ndlight.com for info. Late August could be good, all depends on the tropics.

O, do not worry, I was there and got some barrels for the brothers. One guy said, "Hey, is that a kneeboard? You guys are a vanishing breed." Makes your blood boil, doesn't it?
Surf continues huge today. Eric will be on it somewhere up north with stories to tell afterwards. Yesterday Reef Road was 3 OH, tow-ins only. Pump House across the channel same size breaking top to bottom. There should be some good video when this is all over.

Okay, as my trip approaches (leaving this Friday), trying to renew this thread. Getting any swell? Anyone local interested in getting out for a surf, please pm me with contact information.

You will get waves, thanks to to what is now called Invest91l aka an area of low pressure thats being watched by the NHC. Check out the computer models on this possible storm on www.weatherunderguond.com under Tropical/Hurricane.
I surfed the past 2 days after a long flat spell-light onshore punchy shorebreak, but no complaints.
I'm 3 hours South if you can't get a board hook up with Stephen Michael.

hey guys, you forgetting who just relocated to jacksonville
surf has been fun for the past few days and it looks to at least be rideable for the next week.
scott, you're going to be a decent drive north of jacksonville proper but there are waves on Amelia Island and if you feel like taking a short trip south, the north jetty of the St. Johns River inlet in Huguenot Park may be your best best.
here are some links to check out.
a google map to get your bearings and see the layout of the coast.
surfline's north florida guide (only includes areas south of the st. johns river)
wannasurf.com link for the North Jetty
PM me if you need anything.
if you can, bring your smallest-wave board and don't expect much. florida sucks, there really are no waves here.

edit: forgot to add that most surfers here have never seen or heard of kneeboarding so be prepared for some confused looks.
