Yeah, Weirdo...
Just checked out the discussion so far. True, some pretty complimentary stuff, which is great, and some of it from some younger crew too, which is even greater. However, the level of inanity displayed by a few of the posters is truly mind-boggling. How some of these people manage to put one foot in front of the other is beyond me...
Makes ya wonder about the "average" surfer. I mean, do you hear guitarists slagging off saxophonists? "Oh yeah, well HE has to put that thing in his MOUTH to make a tune for gawd's sake. It just isn't music!!"
Tell ya one thing. I've come across some absolute tools in the surf over the years, but never yet one riding a kneelo.

It gets depressing reading most of the posts in surfing forums, things like localism, what is a kook, and just general meaness, some of the skateboarding forums will eat you alive. It's mainly kids in the surf forums. That's why it's so nice to come in here, and read real stuff with fellow kneelos, and people that you might meet some day.

The "other reason" obviously would be that George decided he didn't want to be remembered as a complete knobhead.Even the legendary Greenough once said that he tried riding a longboard but afterwards chose to remain a kneelo. His reason was that the kneeboard had superior maneouverability. I can guess another reason.

I guess I am in good company, my first board was a Jacobs log.

My first board was a 9'2" O'Neill, about 35 lbs - that was a 'short' board for the mid 1960s, made for women and children. I was a 95lb. weakling and I could barely carry the thing. Then trying to turn it was another problem.POint it and go straight.
But I was getting in tune with what it took to ride a wave and I started riding mats then wooden paipos. Then I borrowed a foam n fiberglass kneeboard.
Game-Set-Match. Kneeboarding good- big o'l logs bad.
I was hooked..... and still am. Got great 4'-5' waves at Sewer Peak yesterday morning under a blue sky with glassy conditions. Had to hold myself back so as not to be a wave hog.
Its good to be a kneeboarder.

I guess I'm riding the right wavecraft then :-)Scott wrote:Yeah, pretty fair treatment generally.
This one made me laugh, however. Stupid, but funny...
kneelos should be knome like in stature, and with beards, short and with beards, especially red beards. like old men of the sea. otherwise whats the point?

Why wasn't this programme around when I was 18?
Sorry. Couldn't resist.
I would think there'd be a stampede of responses. I know I shouldn't laugh, but "...a psychiatric problem that stops them getting employment."MarcusMD

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have just established a venture called Fair Business that is focused on providing employment opportunities for people who have been unemployed long term, who are refugees (not from Bondi) or who have a psychiatric problem that stops them getting employment.
Our first 2 ventures are on the South Coast, W'gong and Nowra so if you know anyone who is fair dinkum and wants the opportunity to go further on this give me a yell

That was an entertaining read. We seem to be a well respected dying breed. Glad I started kneeboarding when I did (3yrs ago) as stand up became dull and frustrating after 38 years, that does make me at least 43. In 35 years I will have a balanced opinion. '' Until then Kneeling is all that matters.
