Brand new to Kneeboarding

Post by METALCOASTIE »

I was hoping to gain some insight for KneeBoarding. I am a long time bodyboarder/longboarder. I recently picked up a used 5'10" Dean Cleary, and fell in love with the sport on the first wave. I think i am going to give up BBing and go hard charging in to Kneeboarding. I guess I need some info on boards and supply's. I am 5'8" around 185. what size board should I ride? Is there any shop in San Diego who carry boards and pads? or any shapers around San Diego?

Thanks for all your help

Save yourself some pain and suffering. Sell the kneeboard and get back on your sponge/tank. Kneeboarders are just a bunch of weirdo losers that are middle aged and fat. Oh yeah, we're also kooks that can't stand up. Trust me I've been doing it since age 12 and I live with regret daily.

A bit under the average age but if you're overweight, you're in.

the greenroom in ocean beach? i think..u might find something....but your best bet for a kneeboard shop is the froghouse in newport...theres romonosky boards with the fins near the tail , you should probably ride a 5'7 for that design....

but if you wanna charge hard and get radical on the wave ...then get yourself a 6'1 shoelkopf.(fins forward design)... eric shoelkopf is a local san diego shaper..do a search for his name in the archives , you should find all the info.. good luck

don't listen to Fooj...he's just grumpy from too many bed pan changes.
not his!
kneeboarding is the golden land of surfing opportunity. even the surliest crowds will ooooh and aaaah over your "dodo bird" status and part like the red sea allowing you any set wave you want.
girls will fall invariably on their backs with their legs in the air when they see that you're a kneeboarder.
old and fat is really becoming quite fashionable especially with the old and fat crowd 8)
remember to put your knees really close together and really far forward and flail your arms in beeeg windmills whenever you turn for maximum effect.
hope this helps 8)

MC as soon as you can choose between quad or tri and flipper or no flipper and rail grab or no rail grab. People around here need to know who their potential allies are. S rock is right the chicks will come.

Josh,
Some things you'll need to remember if you're gonna be a kneelo.

1. You may end up with more boards than you care to admit to but you'll never have enough fins.
2. If you're old and fat you can wear flippers because you need all the help you can get.
3. You'll feel really weird eventually cause wherever you paddle out someone will say "don't see many of you guys around any more". Try not to develop a complex about this.
4. Wollongong is to the kneelo as Mecca is to the Muslim; ya gotta go at least once in your life.
5. There are no waves in Wollongong.
6. Some of us are quietly controversial, others are controversially quiet. It's hard to tell the difference.

:D  :D

Welcome Metalcoastie,

There are at least 2 shops that are ready-made for the local KB community located in SD.

One is the Greenroom in OB. There are some fantastic shapes on the rack there, made by a world-renowned shaper (Pavel). Problem is, the boards are pretty expensive. But they are worth it.

The other place is Rocky's, just around the corner from Greenroom. Lots of fishes and quads made by lots of different shapers. Prices are way more reasonable. Look for Hank Warner shapes, he's a well-respected local shaper with a lot of roots and experience. And a great guy to boot.

Hope this helps. 8)
