Wetsuits

Post by badknees1 »

I do not fit the mold and some of you don't either. Tried for years to find a full suit that fit. Season after season I bought 3x then 2x suits then 2x stocky or short etc etc but each time the legs and arms were way to long. When I exited the water I always carried 4 gallons of water at the ankles. Shoulders bunched, behind the knees areas bunched and the suits were overall hard as hell to get into. At 5'7" and 270 lbs all this made going to the beach not fun. I lost wieght but still have the "stocky "build. All the big manu's could not help. I knew Froghouse could alter a suit but "not the whole fricken suit!!!" Ok so your saying "well just shut the pie hole" Well yeah I am doin that but until then fitting a brick into a straw ain't easy....But then I checked out New Wave Custom Wetsuits in Fullerton. I just got the custom suit in a 5 day turn around after first meaurements. The crew there is very nice. The suit is nothing fancy because I kept it simple but you can add what you want depending on how yer 401K did this week. I paid around 250.00, it's worth having suit that fits. So for those of you who don't fit the size chart ....check these guys out. Fits like butta. Any of you who LET US SAY ARE STOCKY..have any other ideas or solved the issue with the large manu's???? Goin to have some twigs and bark now.

Aleeda in SoCal also still makes custom suits. They will take any of their suits and modify to size...they make some nice stuff. Last I looked it was about the same price you paid for a top line custom suit. Only $50 extra for custom.

I would also recommend Hotline...they use to make a 543 hooded suit with the zipper across the back was hell to get on but warm...their suits are to full for me now as they changed the cut some years ago.

I've also owned an Aleeda 543 hooded suit with the zipper across the chest...was fantastic and lasted 4-5 seasons.

I would buy from either company.

Been wearing X-cel 4/3....5/4/3 for the past five yrs.Pretty much the best fit for my body shape. They have a fuller knee pad,so I don't get that hole that develops just beneath the kneecap. And the bonus being I get them at cost.I surf a lot,so I may get 8-9 months out of a suit, and I'm fanatical about equipment care.

cheers

Awesome thread! As a 5'6" 200 lb woman, you can imagine my difficulty finding a fullsuit that fits. I am making do with a men's O'Neil Heat XLS (extra large short) but the arms and legs are so friggin long it's ridiculous. Frog House told me I can get it altered by their lady, but I would rather pay a little extra to have one made for me. Thanks for all the great info! I actually made a little notepad file with all the companies mentioned...NERD!

Any ideas for me. I am 6'5" and 250lbs. XLT is too short. XXL barely fits in Hotline back zips but not the over the shoulder model and they have discontinued the back zips. I wear big and tall shirts but normal pants. All of my length is in the trunk.

Xcel, O'neill, Billabong and now Hotline do not fit. None do customs except O'neill and they are expensive. Any ideas? I am going to try a West Suits suit this weekend.

I would throw in a recommendation for the Mutant by Oneill

I changed this year from my Psycho to the Mutant and the fit is better with very little water flushing happening as compared to my Psycho.

Its a lttle harder to get out of, but overall I like it alot better.
