Masons, you have a spoon? DUDE! Anyone that owns a flexspoon HAS to post pics of the board and riding pics/video if you happen to have it....

Do a search in the Album for my username, it just hasn't gotten good enough this season to bring out the spoon. 8)

I will have photos and hopefully video as well, just need the swell!!!

Hey Masons! Your Romo spoon looks good! It was too small for spoons yesterday but as you know I had another reason for paddling out:

Greenough Camera Spoon

After riding Greenough spoons since 1969 I decided to follow him down the on-board, in the tube photo and video path. Got myself a GoPro Surf Hero camera and mounted it on a Velo replica spoon. It is tiny and weighs 4.5 oz. Greenough strapped on 20+ pounds of camera gear to get his in the tube shots in the '60s.
Image

Took it out today in tiny(1-3?) waves just to try it out. Bellyboarded all but 2 waves. Only tried the video mode today. It also does 5 megapixel stills either one at a time when you press the shutter or a shot every 2 seconds for 1940 stills. I was aware of it on the board but it didn't get in the way. After my friend saw some shots when I tested it in the pool he bought one.

This is a frame grab from video.

And my friend on his spoon from under water.

also flexspoon.com is back online....

George it was great to meet you and Tim out there. Next time it'll be a solid groundswell and I'll be riding in style as well 8)

Rincon - currently W/NW is easing a bit, the low tide is killing it due to all the kelp. 1-2' mainly. Emma Wood/Overhead are 2-3' with some good shape this morning on a higher tide, no crowds!

Here's a little video snippet from Wednesday.
1st wave maybe 3' and I rode on my knees, next 2 1' and I was bellyboarding. Good camera test.

Flexspoon,

These are fun to watch. Any chance of adjusting your camera slightly to show more of the wave face closer to your board? I don't know what you'd do then, if you suddenly want left on a different peak.
I'm not influenced by the past; I change it!

Nice looking rig. Must be easier than wearing 20 lbs of equipment lashed to a backpack frame

Nice little vid flexspoon, did you ever end up getting a H20 audio?

Checked oside yesterday...long lefts off the s-jetty, blacks looked walled and crowded but wouldve been fun on the right waves...

ended up surfing marine st and horseshoes.... got some pretty good rides but still groveling...

Yeah I've got the H2O audio working too! Uplifting trance music while surfing.

The cam mount is epoxied to the board and has no pivot. A true test should come this weekend.

I also set myself up with a Camelback hydration system for those long sessions. So I'll have sounds, camera and drinks.

Here's some onboard video I made in 1987:

Actually works pretty well as a bellyboard. With that spoon the bottom is so round it is hard to pull out when on my belly. Of course I'm a rookie at bellyboarding. I found myself doing things I'd seen sponge riders do.

It does give you a really low perspective - everything is overhead.

Rincon - yesterday occasional 1-3', pretty inconsistent.

Heads up for whoever is going to try and surf Con' tomorrow morning, probably gonna be inconsistent and tiny, also high tide is swamping it out.

Just no swell in the water.

I'd probably just keep driving and hit Jalama :D

**Send me a PM if anyone is going to surf in Ventura/SB county, i'll try to make it out**
