It takes about 5 -6 hours to get there from here by air and roads in various stages of disrepair ,driving through arid flatlands into hills as dry you can imagine into dense lush rainforested mountains before reaching the vast and fertile river delta the road follows the meandering river till we arrive at our base
Yiks the tv is on the blink the beer supplies are sparse ice is found and we settle on the balcony in anticipation of beer o clock meanwhile we are entertained by the local goats who are doing what goats do gangbanging the lady goat headbutting each other and her kids away for prime position the local villagers enjoy the spectacle as much as us or were they enjoying the spectacle of me video in hand following the butting and thrusting
A 5am call to prayer is like an alarm clock we head of in search of waves along a rock and dirt track ,the tide is too low swell small we decide to check out the 8 ks of beach potential plus but where is the swell a river mouth halts our search so its back on the bikes past the bugis pirate camp to the reef
Its so inviting but so small but as the tide pushes in we spot a couple of surfable set waves ,we paddle out the keyway as excited as at any first encounter its at least 2-3 times bigger than we thought ,Cameron takes off on a gnarly one and gets drlled on the reef no scratches or scars all smiles as he hoots my first wave ,im going to try a turn on the next as we paddle out stoked like kids 3 hours later burned to a crisp .
