Large Swells

Post by Stanley »

Today I was checking my local beach 9am in the morning and was spewing that i had a full day of work.

The swell was massive the first real big swell of the yr . The Victorian coast was copping a battering ..I watched sets ranging from 15ft plus.. And Chevete bomby was breaking 2 miles out to sea and i swear there were 20ft sets on it..

Did any one get waves on the Torque coast and how big?? I guess western port was firing a lot of reefs going off...I reckon there would of been some toe-in surfing at 2 mile also known as Easter reef. There would have had to been sets out there at 20 ft plus..

How did you other viccos fair get the opportunity to surf today???

:P

I was at Merricks in the hope of finding an uncrowded wave

everybody else had the same idea
15+ and the swell wasn't quite big enough
a bit fat and sluggish and the very deep tide didn't seem to help
the wind slowly move more and more south
so things didn't happen
got a few but perhaps the HS reef and bombie may have been a better choice

I was told the Pines area was packed

perhaps a drive the west coast is in order for today ?
or the island

JUST GOT BACK FROM A FRIDAY AFTER WORK SURF AT POINT IMPOSSIBLE BETWEEN 13TH AND TORQUAY

swell has backed off but still a few 3 to 4 footers. Variing reports from the lads in the water who were able to get in yesterday. Bells was solid and kicked 10ft plus for a while in the arfo.

the noise from the beach overnight was not as loud as one would expect from such a swell so I kept thinking it was over predicted so it must have been quite pulsy.

13th beach should be very good in the morning with offshores and a 3 foot swell, tide coming in from 7am. New swell filling over the weekend so the action should continue.

the next few weeks look to be pretty consistent for victorians

have fun :!:

friday (yesterday) did Flynns in the arvo on a very high tide and light winds
still seemed to work ok and not too many out ... unusual for Flynns
a crew of three came across from the other side in a Tinnie
a fun filled session

swell is easing fast and we will be back on the beaches today or this afternoon
a very low tide this morning at 0.19 and east at 5 knts and will probably go to the north soon
some closeouts now but with a bit more water
this arvo looks very good

Big Swells

Post by poorboy0007 »

Skived off from Work on the Thursday and Friday arvos! Suicide at Leo on Friday was freaking scary with well overhead sets coming through. Got eaten by a 6-8 footer when it hollowed out over a suck-rock and had saltwater injection into almost every orifice!! Surfed Suicide Saturday morning and Sunday night just passed. Am blown away after a few weeks off good surf. Nice to have some solid walls to improve the turns!!
Quick, lets paddle out before we come to our senses!!

didnt have time on sunday morning being mothers day to head west to the reefs so hoped the west end of 13th beach would be doable, Boings looked reasonable in the half light, two guys on the paddle out. Was sore from saturdays session as well.

suited up and headed down the stairs to see them paddle over the first set and then the true (no it has not dropped size) became apparent

Quick, paddle out before I come to my senses!!

the first half hour my heart was in my mouth, got a few then got used to it and the wind picked up and set it up. another 4o minutes of sensational stuff - watching and getting the odd one. Mothers day then dragged me out.

apparently a blocking pattern is going to cool our heals for a week or so but I think vicco surfers have a bit to live off for the next while :D 8)

On Saterday ...went to check a few spots to get waves without having to surf with the crowds in Westerport by the way poorboy Im stoked you got some good heavy suicide bomps..

Anyhow Red his beautiful wife Jane, my cousin Daniel and myself all met up and decided to walk in to bush rangers bay and there we were greeted with a heavy 6 ft reforming left hander running down a point reef setup and no one out..

Red and I could not believe it we couldn't get changed fast enough.

We had grate waves it was good to see Red just taking this place apart and also this wave sometimes taking him apart too especial one cutty in to a 6 ft bowl that made me feel sicken and yet he pops up laughing

Then after our surf in which we were both knakkerd after on hour of non stop surfing Red and Jane provide a nice hot cupper and treats to finish the sesh of on the beach..

What an AWESOME day
