Colonoscopy cam
I've been working on another project to keep me interested in future films etc. Just thought I would share a snippet of a work in progress.
For the past 6 months I have been stuck on the process of connecting the camera mount to the board without causing any structural or cosmetic damage. Been there and done that to Bruces boards, never again
Thankfully I've been inspired by Albert Munoz who also has picked up the idea & asked me for some input. Anyway, we have trialled a couple of ideas that have shown promise! Albert is currently in Indo testing his version out & I have been hard at work finishing mine.
I think most people have seen footage of stand up surfers with a rear board mount & most would agree that it is a pretty cool angle. Ever since seeing "My eyes wont dry" surf film I've been wanting to do the same sort of approach.
There have been a few hurdles to overcome, 1st being the height. The first attempt was nothing more than a shot of my arse Very unflattering and something Albert also experienced with his early trials. Finding materials that would allow height as well as strength and being user friendly was a mental challenge. Lots of ideas that were usually shut down due to expense so a cheaper version was needed and some creativity which brings me to this end product.
Attaching the camera mount to the board has been hard. I've had two attempts that have not worked but I have come up with not the prettiest result but so far the strongest. Alberts input helped enormously with this stage and one we are still working on.
Protection is another aspect high up on the list, lots of screws, bolts, steel edges to rip you a new arsehole
I took it out yesterday in very average conditions and was happy with the saftey, strength and attachment but captured very little footage that could be kept. Loads of results regarding everything else with the rig though.
Time will tell. Got a trip coming up to Indo in a month so hopefully will have everything tweaked by then.

WRECKED'M ! It nearly killed'm.
Simon,
Please be sure to sinch up your boardies while filming in Indo with this camera rig.
The "plumber's arse" view of you cracking a posterior smile would detract from the "deep in tube" view.
And why is it that on my colonoscopy appointment last year, the hospital sends in one of the most stunning specimens of womanhood I've ever seen?
And talk about deep tube visions,
I've got a DVD of the procedure.
I'll send you a copy to use in your next film.

Not on blokes island anymore Randy
Ahhhhhh no thanks Buddy! but maybe you could ask your fine nurse if she would be interested in trying out my rig throughout Indo with us. I'm sure i will see a rise in sales of the next movie with some deep clean focused barrels with miss RN Asia.
I'm feeling a real pattern and concern from viewers here about my crack being the focus point! I guess i should take out my G-string then which was going to be my suprise to all at the end of the film
Hi Griz,
Your point has been taken on board mate. This is the 1st attempt and there are little changes that can be made, Ive set the video clip shown at the verticle setting where I'm going to try the wide angle next plus tilt the camera at a different angle. Its all trial and error & hopefully the next time i will get some proper conditions for this set up. This angle will only be a brief showing in the next film with many other angles included.
Thanks for your input Griz

other stuff
Hey Simon, despite the primative nature of of your rigg holding the camera, your footage looked good.
Ditch you and put a hot girl model in bikinis and I am sure everyone will like the plumber view.
On serious note..... there are some riggs out there that are used in the professional realm that may help you if you wanna spend the bucks or contact a GRIP who specialises in camera support and underwater stuff
see attached http://www.digitaldiver.com.au/arm_accessories.htm
Good luck. MJ and I are going to North Sumartra in 2 weeks and will be shooting a vid too. will post some footage after
Budgie

Colonoscopy cam
Simon looks to me like your on a winner ,especially when you find some Indo perfection ,as far as the mounting goes looks arent everything results are ,can only imagine the footage you would have got at Desert point last week pity its so fickle bit like Ocean beach box to the power of 10 long long barrels by some of the wct crew
Will be trying to hook up with a few kneeboarders that are here over the next month with luck grab some land shots ,back to Oz 11th July
Albert if you read this make contact

Thanks Greg
There is something about getting your hands dirty & using your head to create something that you have a passion for.
Yes it is primitive but as steve said its the end result that matters. I've got a few more attempts still to go I think till I find the right angle, right setting, right lighting & right waves to get a real glimpse of what might be possible.
Have a great trip budgie.
Good to hear from you Steve and agree with what you said
Wish I also was a deserts but I have no time for big crowds anymore. Dam south coast has spoilt me
I don't think Albert is coming to Bali steve. He went to nth Sumatra and was limited for time due to number two child on it's way well and truly.
Keep well Steve

arse cam
you are definitly on to something. Yes the butt is prominent. ok dumb question what about angling the tube and mount slightly to the side and forward. OK you'd be limited by which way you would go on the wave. Ok here's another dumb question what about the cam mounted between the where the knees go? on the board of course! The that limits one's knee action now. You guys are the mad scientists you'll get it. Good luck.

Thanks Badknees1
I think the position of the camera is going to work well but I've not yet got the chance to test it in its optimal conditions. Hollow barrels with good lighting.
I had a chance a couple weeks back but i did every no no there is known to photographers & rushed. Perfect 4-6ft spitting barrels, no one out & sunny.
I ran back to my car and pulled the board & rig out of a steamy warm heated car into a very cold outside temp. and within minutes of sprinting to the waters edge the camera had dissapeared inside the housing from condensation
I got two of the best barrels ive had in years and to think if only i had of thought instead of rushing out! (guess i would not have been in the right spot then!)
Anyway, getting off track.
So I've got minor angles to play with and settings with the camera so time and practice will get me what I'm after I'm sure
The shots between the knees is something ive also been working on Badknees1 so I wont go into that yet until the proof is in the pudding
